Patterns of head and neck sarcoma in Australia
ConclusionThe incidence of head and neck sarcoma in Australia is higher than that reported for an equivalent European population. The increase in MFH arising from the skin in elderly male patients mirrors the patterns of common cutaneous malignancy, particularly melanoma, suggesting that ultraviolet radiation is an epidemiological factor. Management of head and neck sarcoma is complex and best managed in a specialist multidisciplinary environment. (Source: ANZ Journal of Surgery)

Homozygous microdeletion of the ERI1 and MFHAS1 genes in a patient with intellectual disability, limb abnormalities, and cardiac malformation
A male child, born from consanguineous parents and having intellectual disability, short stature, dysmorphic facial features, synpolydactyly, and cardiac malformations is reported. Chromosomal microarray analysis showed that the patient presents with an 8p23.1 homozygous deletion, containing the microRNA miR‐4660, the exoribonuclease 1 (ERI1), and malignant fibrous histiocytoma amplified sequence 1 (MFHAS1) genes. The microRNA miR‐4660 has no known function. MFHAS1 is an immunomodulatory protein involved in Toll‐like receptor signaling, erythropoiesis, and cancer. ERI1 is a ribonuclease involved in RNA metabolism and...

Clinical Features and Treatment of Fibrous Histiocytomas of the Tongue: A Systematic Review
Conclusion Benign fibrous histiocytomas are consistent in clinical and histopathologic presentation. Surgical treatment provides excellent outcome, with no recurrence in all excised cases. Malignant tumors have a more aggressive clinical and pathological presentation. Surgical treatment with possible adjuvant radiotherapy resulted in recurrence in 40% of cases (follow-up of 24 months), and death due to disease in 47% of patients (follow-up of 19 months). A Rare Case of Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma (Undifferentiated High-Grade Pleomorphic Sarcoma) of Malar Region
Abstract: Malignant fibrous histiocytoma is a sarcoma with rare occurrence in the oral and maxillofacial region; surgery is the most reliable treatment. Inadequate resection of the sarcoma on the oral and maxillofacial region is associated with a high incidence of local recurrence and a poor prognosis. Only few patients of malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the malar region have been previously reported in the literature. The authors report a new patient of malignant fibrous histiocytoma on the right malar region that treated a complete tumor surgical excision without lymph node dissection. Examination of the resected speci...

Optimization of antitumor treatment conditions for transcutaneous CO2 application: An in vivo study.
Authors: Ueha T, Kawamoto T, Onishi Y, Harada R, Minoda M, Toda M, Hara H, Fukase N, Kurosaka M, Kuroda R, Akisue T, Sakai Y Abstract Carbon dioxide (CO2) therapy can be applied to treat a variety of disorders. We previously found that transcutaneous application of CO2 with a hydrogel decreased the tumor volume of several types of tumors and induced apoptosis via the mitochondrial pathway. However, only one condition of treatment intensity has been tested. For widespread application in clinical antitumor therapy, the conditions must be optimized. In the present study, we investigated the relationship betwe...

A rare presentation of myxofibrosarcoma as a Pancoast tumor: a case report
ConclusionsHere we present a case of Pancoast tumor with myxofibrosarcoma as the underlying etiology. Pancoast syndrome generally entails an infiltrating lesion in the superior sulcus presenting with upper extremity pain, atrophy of the hand muscles, and Horner ’s syndrome. The differential diagnosis of Pancoast syndrome includes inflammatory and infectious etiologies, as well as neoplasms of benign and malignant nature. Of the neoplasms implicated, the most common are non-small cell lung carcinomas; myxofibrosarcoma presenting as a Pancoast tumor has no t been reported in the literature. Intraventricular gliosarcoma with dual sarcomatous differentiation: A unique case
Gliosarcoma, a variant of isocitrate dehydrogenase‐wildtype glioblastoma, is largely a lobar surfacing neoplasm often with dural attachment. In this biphasic neoplasm, the sarcomatous component usually takes the form of fibrosarcoma or malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Heterologous sarcomatous differentiation is a rare phenomenon. Here, we present a case of gliosarcoma with liposarcomatous and myosarcomatous differentiation in a 68‐year‐old man which was purely intraventricular. This is the first report of such a morphologic pattern in this location. Varied histological components with their immunohistochemical profile...

External-beam radiation therapy combined with limb-sparing surgery in elderly patients ( & gt;70  years) with primary soft tissue sarcomas of the extremities
ConclusionCombination of EBRT and limb-sparing surgery is feasible in elderly patients with acceptable toxicities and encouraging but slightly inferior outcome compared to younger patients. Comorbidity correlated with postoperative complications and acute toxicities. Late fracture risk seems slightly increased. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Outcome of peripheral venous reconstructions during tumor resection
Conclusions In selected patients fit for advanced tumor resection, reconstruction of IL and extremity veins is a safe and durable, with excellent limb salvage. Vein and prosthetic reconstructions both appear effective; however, infectious complications and graft thrombosis remain important complications when selecting a prosthetic conduit. A Squamous Cell Carcinoma and a Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma Developing in a Patient with a Mature Cystic Teratoma
We present a very rare case of malignant transformation of a benign mature cystic teratoma. The pathology report revealed malignant transformation of both the epithelial and sarcomatous elements of a benign dermoid cyst. To the best of our knowledge, this appears to be the third case of a malignant fibrous histiocytoma and a squamous cell carcinoma developing from a mature cystic teratoma. Malignant transformation of a dermoid cyst is usually diagnosed postmenopausally, but our patient was premenopausal. The etiology and prognosis of malignant transformation of this benign condition remain unknown.Case Rep Oncol 2017;10:98...

Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma of the vocal fold.
We report a case of undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma of the vocal fold in a 64-year-old man presenting with rapid growth. The lesion was treated with type III microlaryngeal surgery followed by radiation therapy. The patient's voice was good enough for social communication, and there was no evidence of recurrence on regular examination.
