Intramuscular high-grade myxofibrosarcoma of left buttock of 66-year-old male patient - approach to systematic histopathological reporting.
Authors: Wincewicz A, Lewitowicz P, Matykiewicz J, Głuszek S, Sulkowski S Abstract Here we present a systematic approach to histopathological reporting of high-grade myxofibrosarcoma of 66-year-old male patient. The tumor was biopsied with fine-needle aspiration (FNA) and core-needle biopsy (CNB) and then the whole myxoid tumor was excised with left musculus gluteus maximus. The lesion was stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE), Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS), Alcian blue, Masson's trichrome, Ki67, alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), S100, CD34 and vimentin. FNA material grounded the diagnosis of non-epithelial ...

Metastatic Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma in the Stomach: Imaging With 18F-FDG PET/CT
We report a 73-year-old man with MFH in the left popliteal fossa that metastasized to the stomach. Whole-body 18F-FDG PET/CT showed abnormal tracer uptakes in the stomach, which was subsequently confirmed as metastatic MFH. (Source: Clinical Nuclear Medicine)

Right ventricular undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma: A case report
We report the case of a 57-year-old woman with a large right ventricular UPS who presented with signs of right-sided heart failure. Preoperative imaging was suggestive of a myxoma; however, histopathologic evaluation of the specimen confirmed a diagnosis of UPS. Microscopic margins of the specimen were positive, and adjuvant chemotherapy was given. We discuss diagnostic and treatment considerations for this unusual cardiac tumor. <Learning objective: The diagnosis and treatment of primary cardiac tumors are challenging. Noninvasive imaging often lacks the sensitivity and specificity to differentiate between benign a...

A rare case of primary pleomorphic undifferentiated sarcoma of the pancreas
Background: Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS), known as malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH), is a malignant neoplasm that arises in both soft tissue and bones. Primary pancreatic UPS is extremely rare and is usually diagnosed on histopathology with the aid of immunohistochemistry. (Source: Pancreatology)

Histopathological Spectrum of Tumor and
Tumor-like Lesions of the Paratestis in a
Tertiary Care Hospital.
CONCLUSION: Neoplasms of the paratesticular region affect patients of all ages, with potentially life-threatening sequelae. Awareness of the entire spectrum and meticulous histopathological examination and immunohistochemical studies are of prime importance in the diagnosis of the various lesions as these influence the mode of therapy and subsequent prognosis of the patient. Parasacral malignant fibrous histiocytoma presenting with low back pain
A 54-year-old man presented with complaints of low back pain and sacrococcygeal numbness. His past medical history was unremarkable. Physical examination revealed a palpable mass in the right parasacral region. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a relatively well-circumscribed soft tissue mass (45x40x38 mm), which was located within the paraspinal muscle in the right parasacral region (Fig.1). The lesion extended to the sacrum anteriorly, and the right gluteus maximus muscle posteroinferiorly. It was iso- to mildly hypointense to muscle on T1-weighted images, and heterogeneous hyperintense on T2-weighted images. (Source: The Spine Journal)

Cardiac tumors in a tertiary care cancer hospital: clinical features, echocardiographic findings, treatment and outcomes.
We report the clinical characteristics, echocardiograhic findings, therapy and outcome of 59 patients with primary and metastatic cardiac tumors. Our institutional echocardiogram data base from 1993 through 2005 was reviewed to identify patients diagnosed with intra-cardiac tumor. A total of 59 patients with cardiac tumors were identified and included in the study. The patients' characteristics, presenting symptoms, diagnostic tests, location, histology of the tumor, treatment and the one year survival rate of this population was collected from the medical records. Of the 59 cardiac tumor cases, 16 (27%) were primary cardi...

Unusual localization of a primary pleomorphic malignant fibrous histiocytoma on the mitral valve: a case report and review of the literature
Conclusion We reviewed 90 cases with malignant fibrous histiocytoma reported in the literature. Our case was especially unusual because of the primary location in the mitral valve, the pleomorphic variant, and the dimensions and extension. Complete surgical resection is mandatory to ameliorate symptoms and to obtain histologic information. (Source: Journal of Medical Case Reports)

Giant cell variant of malignant fibrous histiocytoma of male breast: A rare case report
We present a case of MFH of giant cell variant of the right breast in a 50-year-old male who presented with a painless lump. Following cytological investigation, simple mastectomy was performed. Immunohistochemical staining confirmed the diagnosis. (Source: Journal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics)

Abstract 2222: Possible involvement of senescence bypass in mesenchymal stem cells for sarcomagenesis identified through a comparative gene expression profiling in rat sarcoma model
INTRODUCTION. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) exist in a variety of tissues such as bone marrow and adipose tissue contributing tissue repair and maintenance, and have been used in clinical cell transplantation therapy. On the other hand, MSCs are also believed to be one of the cell of origins for certain sarcomas including osteosarcoma and malignant fibrous histiocytoma/undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (MFH/UPS). To identify the signaling pathways that are involved in sarcoma pathogenesis, we compared gene expression profiles in rat osteosarcoma and MFH cells with those in syngeneic rat MSCs.MATERIALS 2015 Apr 18-22; P...

Rat malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH)-derived cloned cell lines (MT-8 and MT-9) show different differentiation in mesenchymal stem cell lineage.
Abstract Malignant fibrous histiocytomas (MFHs) show a storiform growth pattern consisting of fibroblastic, histiocytic and undifferentiated mesenchymal cells with possible multipotency. Because MFH-like tumors are induced experimentally by some chemicals and materials, it is important to know the histogenesis of MFHs. We analyzed in vitro and in vivo characteristics of two cloned cell lines (MT-8 and MT-9) established from a spontaneous MFH found in an aged F344 rat. MT-8 and MT-9 cultured cells and their tumors induced in syngeneic rats by injection were investigated morphologically, and their tumors wer...
