Low Dose of Nickel and Benzo [a] Anthracene in Rat-Diet, Induce Apoptosis, Fibrosis, and Initiate Carcinogenesis in Liver via NF- Ƙβ Pathway
This study was designed to evaluate the carcinogenic risk and other risks associated with long-term consumption of environmentally relevant dose of nickel and benzo [a] anthracene in rats. Thirty-six (36) male rats weighing between 80 and 100 g were assigned into 6 groups of 6 animals each; normal, nickel-, and benzo [a] anthracene-exposed groups for 12 and 24 weeks, respectively. Micronucleus and comet analyses were done in the blood, liver, and bone marrow. Liver function, redox, and inflammatory markers (AST, ALT, GGT, SOD, GSH, MDA, protein carbonyl, protein thiol, total protein, IL-10, 1L-1β, TNF-α, TGF-β NF-Ƙβ, ...

Association between sleep duration and a new onset of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
Conclusions In women, a short sleep duration was independently associated with the onset of NAFLD, thus suggesting that an adequate sleep duration can be a promising preventive factor for the onset of NAFLD in women.PMID:38658342 | DOI:10.2169/internalmedicine.3119-23 (Source: Internal Medicine)

Identification of a novel splice variant in < em > SEC23B < /em > gene in a patient with concomitant presence of congenital dyserythropoietic anemia II and Gilbert's syndrome
CONCLUSION: Identification of the novel splice variant in this study further expands the spectrum of known SEC23B gene mutations. Molecular genetic approaches can lead to accurate diagnosis and management of CDA Ⅱ patients, particularly for those with GS coexisting.PMID:38655690 | DOI:10.1080/16078454.2024.2343163 (Source: Hematology)

Comprehensive study of the interplay between immunological and metabolic factors in hepatic steatosis
Int Immunopharmacol. 2024 Apr 23;133:112091. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2024.112091. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe pathophysiology of hepatic steatosis is thoroughly reviewed in this comprehensive report, with particular attention to the complex interactions between inflammatory pathways, insulin resistance, lipid metabolism, metabolic dysregulation, and immunological responses in the liver including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The study highlights the role of immune cell regulation in disease progression and explores the potential of i...

Hepatic Dysfunction Quantified by HepQuant DuO Outperforms Child-Pugh Classification in Predicting the Pharmacokinetics of Ampreloxetine
Clin Pharmacol Ther. 2024 Apr 23. doi: 10.1002/cpt.3265. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHepQuant tests quantify liver function from clearance of deuterium- and 13C-labeled cholates administered either intravenously and orally (SHUNT) or orally (DuO). Hepatic impairment studies have relied on clinical or laboratory criteria like Child-Pugh classification to categorize the degree of hepatic dysfunction. We compared HepQuant tests with Child-Pugh classification in predicting the pharmacokinetics of ampreloxetine. Twenty-one subjects with hepatic impairment (8 Child-Pugh A, 7 Child-Pugh B, and 6 Child-Pugh C), and 10 age- and s...

Spatial Proteomics Reveals Alcohol-Induced Damages to the Crypts and Villi of the Mouse Small Intestine
In this study, we employed laser capture microdissection and a label-free proteomics approach to investigate the consequences of alcohol exposure to the proteomes of crypts and villi in the proximal small intestine. Intestinal tissues from alcohol-fed and pair-fed mice were microdissected to selectively capture cells in the crypts and villi regions, followed by one-pot protein digestion and data-independent LC-MS/MS analysis. We successfully identified over 3000 proteins from each of the crypt or villi regions equivalent to ∼3000 cells. Analysis of alcohol-treated tissues indicated an enhanced alcohol metabolism and redu...
