Revisiting liver metabolism through acetyl-CoA carboxylase inhibition
Trends Endocrinol Metab. 2024 Apr 24:S1043-2760(24)00093-6. doi: 10.1016/j.tem.2024.04.010. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLiver-targeted acetyl-coenzyme A (CoA) carboxylase (ACC) inhibitors in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) trials reveal notable secondary effects: hypertriglyceridemia and altered glucose metabolism, paradoxically with reduced hepatic steatosis. In their study, Deja et al. explored how hepatic ACC influences metabolism using different pharmacological and genetic methods, coupled with targeted metabolomics and stable isotope-based tracing techniques.PMID:38664153 | DOI:10.10...

Cellular strategies to induce immune tolerance after liver transplantation: Clinical perspectives
World J Gastroenterol. 2024 Apr 7;30(13):1791-1800. doi: 10.3748/wjg.v30.i13.1791.ABSTRACTLiver transplantation (LT) has become the most efficient treatment for pediatric and adult end-stage liver disease and the survival time after transplantation is becoming longer due to the development of surgical techniques and perioperative management. However, long-term side-effects of immunosuppressants, like infection, metabolic disorders and malignant tumor are gaining more attention. Immune tolerance is the status in which LT recipients no longer need to take any immunosuppressants, but the liver function and intrahepatic histol...

Bayesian network-based survival prediction model for patients having undergone post-transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt for portal hypertension
CONCLUSION: This study successfully developed a BN-based survival prediction model with good predictive capabilities. It offers valuable insights for treatment strategies and prognostic evaluations in patients having undergone TIPS surgery for PHT.PMID:38659484 | PMC:PMC11036496 | DOI:10.3748/wjg.v30.i13.1859 (Source: World Journal of Gastroenterology)

Novel subtype of obesity influencing the outcomes of sleeve gastrectomy: Familial aggregation of obesity
CONCLUSION: FAO patients is associated with decreased mid-to-long-term weight loss outcomes; the alleviation of T2DM, hyperlipidemia and NAFLD; and decreased incidence of acid reflux postoperatively.PMID:38659480 | PMC:PMC11036498 | DOI:10.3748/wjg.v30.i13.1887 (Source: World Journal of Gastroenterology)
