Metabolomics of Mice with Type 2 Diabetes and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Treated by Acupuncture
CONCLUSION: Our study shows that acupuncture can regulate the liver metabolism mode of T2DM in NAFLD mice. It can reduce blood glucose and lipid accumulation in the liver, and these findings provide a new idea and theoretical basis for acupuncture in the treatment of diseases related to glucose and lipid metabolism.PMID:38633528 | PMC:PMC11023731 | DOI:10.1155/2024/5568337 (Source: International Journal of Endocrinology)

Gliflozins in the Treatment of Non-diabetic Experimental Cardiovascular Diseases
Physiol Res. 2024 Apr 18. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA new class of antidiabetic drugs - gliflozins (inhibitors of sodium glucose cotransporter-2; SGLT-2i) stimulate glucose and sodium excretion, thereby contributing to improved glycemic control, weight loss and blood pressure reduction in diabetic patients. Large clinical trials in patients with type 2 diabetes treated with empagliflozin, canagliflozin or dapagliflozin have demonstrated their excellent efficacy in improving many cardiovascular outcomes, including the reduction of death from cardiovascular diseases, non-fatal myocardial infarction or stroke, and hospita...

LDL-C and TC mediate the risk of PNPLA3 inhibition on cardiovascular diseases
CONCLUSION: This study suggests that PNPLA3 inhibition increases the risk of major CVDs. Moreover, blood LDL-C and TC may mediate a significant proportion of the associations between PNPLA3 inhibition and coronary atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, or myocardial infarction.PMID:38636099 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae264 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Opportunities and challenges in phage therapy for cardiometabolic diseases
Trends Endocrinol Metab. 2024 Apr 17:S1043-2760(24)00083-3. doi: 10.1016/j.tem.2024.03.007. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe worldwide prevalence of cardiometabolic diseases (CMD) is increasing, and emerging evidence implicates the gut microbiota in this multifactorial disease development. Bacteriophages (phages) are viruses that selectively target a bacterial host; thus, phage therapy offers a precise means of modulating the gut microbiota, limiting collateral damage on the ecosystem. Several studies demonstrate the potential of phages in human disease, including alcoholic and steatotic liver disease. In this opinion art...
