Refined Sound Therapy in Combination with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to Treat Tinnitus: A Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSIONS: (1) This new combination is more effective than post-auricular injection of lidocaine and methylprednisolone sodium succinate in treating tinnitus and improving psychological symptoms. The latter had no effect on improving psychological indicators. (2) With this combination, patients with different tinnitus frequencies experienced different improvements in anxiety. (3) Low-frequency tinnitus seems have been more likely to cause sound adaptation. (4) The improvement in tinnitus and anxiety was the same regardless of whether or not there was hearing loss.PMID:38518137 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of the Analgesic Effects of Lidocaine Administered Intravenously or Intraperitoneally Post-Abdominal Surgery
CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis suggests that post-abdominal surgery intraperitoneal lidocaine administration has a better analgesic effect than intravenous lidocaine, with a lower pain score. However, intravenous lidocaine is more beneficial for gastrointestinal recovery after abdominal surgery.PMID:38506678 (Source: Pain Physician)

Effective dose of intranasal remimazolam for preoperative sedation in preschool children: a dose-finding study using Dixon ’s up-and-down method
Conclusion:Intranasal remimazolam is feasible for preschool children with a short onset time. For successful pre-induction sedation, the ED50 and ED95 of intranasal remimazolam were 0.65 and 0.78 mg/kg, respectively. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Assessment of symptomatic response to intravesical alkalinized lidocaine, bupivacaine, heparin and steroids in patients with bladder pain syndrome
Trop Doct. 2024 Mar 18:494755241236993. doi: 10.1177/00494755241236993. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBladder Pain Syndrome (BPS) is a puzzling and complicated disorder. 12 such patients, with a mean age 48.3 years, were treated with weekly intravesical instillation of admixture of alkalinized lidocaine, bupivacaine, heparin and steroids for six weeks. Evaluating the benefits of this therapy, patients experienced 82.2% & 90.9% relief at 3rd & 6th week of instillation. After completion of six cycles of therapy, patients experienced 68.7% & 65.3% relief at 3rd & 6th month follow up, concluding the early and l...

Open Exploration and Reduction of Paediatric Supracondylar Humerus Fracture with Pink, Pulseless Hand in Resource-Limited Settings
Conclusions: In resource-limited settings, we recommend performing open exploration and reduction for patients with SHFs with pink, pulseless hand. This approach prevents iatrogenic neurovascular injury during closed reduction attempts, allows for immediate repair of a brachial artery injury and avoids unnecessary hospitalisation and serial monitoring. Level of Evidence: Level IV (Therapeutic).PMID:38494170 | DOI:10.1142/S2424835524500139 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Use of sawdust for production of ligninolytic enzymes by white-rot fungi and pharmaceutical removal
Bioprocess Biosyst Eng. 2024 Mar 14. doi: 10.1007/s00449-024-02976-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUse of white-rot fungi for enzyme-based bioremediation of wastewater is of high interest. These fungi produce considerable amounts of extracellular ligninolytic enzymes during solid-state fermentation on lignocellulosic materials such as straw and sawdust. We used pure sawdust colonized by Pleurotus ostreatus, Trametes versicolor, and Ganoderma lucidum for extraction of ligninolytic enzymes in aqueous suspension. Crude enzyme suspensions of the three fungi, with laccase activity range 12-43 U/L and manganese peroxidase activ...

Smallest Clinically Meaningful Improvement in Amputation-Related Pain and Brief Pain Inventory Scores as Defined by Patient Reports of Global Improvement After Cryoneurolysis: a Retrospective Analysis of a Randomized, Controlled Clinical Trial
CONCLUSIONS: Amputees with phantom limb pain treated with percutaneous cryoneurolysis rate analgesic improvements as clinically meaningful similar to pharmacologic treatments, although their MCID for the Brief Pain Inventory was somewhat larger than previously published values. This information on patient-defined clinically meaningful improvements will facilitate interpretation of available studies and guide future trial design.PMID:38478876 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006833 (Source: Pain Physician)
