Intra-operative anesthetic induced myocardial protection during cardiothoracic surgery: a literature review
CONCLUSIONS: Myocardial protection with respect to the anesthetic agents have been extensively studied over the past two decades, some routinely used drugs such as the volatile agents, propofol and opiates have demonstrated a cardioprotective role. The ideal dosing regimen and duration are areas of research that can be studied further. The data for the other anesthetic adjuncts such as lidocaine, dexmedetomidine along with use of regional anesthesia is still equivocal. Alongside advances in anesthesia, we believe surgical research looking into optimal cardioplegia solutions will also help improve myocardial protection in t...

Systematic Review of Local Anaesthetic Systemic Toxicity in Urology
CONCLUSION: LAST is seen only rarely in adult urology. Most iatrogenic cases occur due to penile dorsal nerve block and most patients have no long-term sequelae. Urologists should be familiar with its presentation and management, and minimise risk by adhering to local anaesthetic maximum safe dose ranges.PMID:38237111 | DOI:10.52198/23.STI.43.UR1725 (Source: Surgical Technology International)

Sudden ventricular fibrillation due to absence of pericardium in left upper lobectomy: a case report
CONCLUSION: Patients with CAP are more susceptible to cardiac-related adverse events during thoracotomy or thoracoscopy. Treatment of ventricular arrhythmias that occur during lung resection in patients with CAP should be emphasized.PMID:38225739 | DOI:10.4097/kja.23625 (Source: Korean Journal of Anesthesiology)

Comparison of lidocaine viscous gargle and topical application on laryngeal mask airway in general anesthesia: A randomized clinical trial
CONCLUSION: Lidocaine viscous gargle showed no statistically significant difference in incidence of POST and incidence of pharynx dryness compared with topical application of lidocaine on the LMA. Both approaches were safe for patients receiving LMA.Chinese Clinical Trial Register No.: ChiCTR2200059720.PMID:38220237 | PMC:PMC10807662 | DOI:10.15537/smj.2024.45.1.20230368 (Source: Saudi Medical Journal)

Validation of a Midfacial Scale and Its Use in a Randomized, Evaluator-Blinded Study of CPM-HA-V
CONCLUSION: The MCFAS is a validated, reliable, and clinically relevant photonumeric scale for rating midfacial volume loss in males and females of various ages and skin types. In a pilot study, CPM-HA-V was found to be safe and tolerable, and the MCFAS was able to detect clinically meaningful post-treatment changes.
