Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on HIV Test Uptake Among People Who Inject Drugs in the Context of an HIV Outbreak
In conclusion, progress in increasing testing in response to the HIV outbreak has been eroded by COVID-19. Adoption of a linked data approach could be warranted in other settings to inform efforts to eliminate HIV transmission. (Source: AIDS and Behavior)

High cure rates of Mycoplasma genitalium following empiric treatment with azithromycin alongside frequent detection of macrolide resistance in Austria
ConclusionsMycoplasma genitalium was readily detected in this Austrian observational study, affected predominantly MSM and often presented as asymptomatic disease. We observed a worryingly high prevalence of AZM resistance mutations; however, empiric AZM treatment cleared twice as many MG infections as expected. (Source: Infection)

The U-shaped association between serum osmolality and 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis: a retrospective cohort study
ConclusionThere is a U-shaped relationship between serum osmolality and the 28-day mortality risk in patients with sepsis. Higher or lower serum osmolality is associated with an increased risk of mortality in patients with sepsis. Patients with sepsis have a lower risk of mortality when their osmolality is 285.80-296.29 mmol/L. (Source: Infection)

Synthesis and preclinical evaluation of novel 18F-vancomycin-based tracers for the detection of bacterial infections using positron emission tomography
ConclusionHere we present the synthesis and first evaluation of the vancomycin-based PET tracers [18F]BODIPY-FL-vancomycin and [18F]PQ-VE1-vancomycin for image-guided detection of Gram-positive bacteria. Our study paves the way towards real-time bacteria-targeted diagnosis of soft tissue and implant-associated infections that are oftentimes caused by Gram-positive bacteria, even after prophylactic treatment with vancomycin. Updates to Disaster Management Strategies for CDC Category A Bioterrorism Agents
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThe goal of this paper is to provide current suggestions for a system-based response to a bioterrorism attack and discuss treatment options for CDC category A bioterrorism agents.Recent FindingsVaccines for anthrax andY. pestis are being developed, but they are not rapidly available in the USA. Vaccine distribution methodology for the recent M-pox outbreak was used that the smallpox vaccine could utilize. Two antibody therapies and one vaccine are available for Ebola but not for other viral hemorrhagic fever diseases. Recent health system stressors encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic are likel...

Why is sharing knowledge about hand hygiene and infection prevention and control still so important?
The global health care workforce is estimated to exceed 65 million. [1] Broken down by cadre, this “stock” comprises 29.1 million nurses, 12.7 million medical doctors, 3.7 million pharmacists, 2.5 million dentists, 2.2 million midwives and 14.9 million in additional occupations, including cleaners and healthcare waste workers. These numbers have not accounted for external contractors. Each of these numbers represents a person requiring training and education in infection prevention and control (IPC), to support the overall safety and quality of health care delivery. Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1599: Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-Cell Therapy in Hematologic Malignancies: Clinical Implications and Limitations
er Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has become a powerful treatment option in B-cell and plasma cell malignancies, and many patients have benefited from its use. To date, six CAR T-cell products have been approved by the FDA and EMA, and many more are being developed and investigated in clinical trials. The whole field of adoptive cell transfer has experienced an unbelievable development process, and we are now at the edge of a new era of immune therapies that will have its impact beyond hematologic malignancies. Areas of interest are, e.g., solid oncology, autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, and ot...
