Ageing of Plasmodium falciparum malaria sporozoites alters their motility, infectivity and reduces immune activation in vitro
Sporozoites (SPZ), the infective form of Plasmodium falciparum malaria, can be inoculated into the human host skin by Anopheline mosquitoes. These SPZ migrate at approximately 1 µm/s to find a blood vessel and tr... (Source: Malaria Journal)

Effect of spatiotemporal variables on abundance, biting activity and parity of Nyssorhynchus darlingi (Diptera: Culicidae) in peri-Iquitos, Peru
In malaria endemic regions of the Peruvian Amazon, rainfall together with river level and breeding site availability drive fluctuating vector mosquito abundance and human malaria cases, leading to temporal het... (Source: Malaria Journal)

Key informant views on potential acceptability and feasibility of long-acting antiretroviral treatment for HIV in Kenya
In 2020, 14% of diagnosed persons living with HIV (PLWH) in Kenya were not taking antiretroviral therapy (ART), and 19% of those on ART had unsuppressed viral loads. Long-acting antiretroviral therapy (LA-ART)... (Source: BMC Infectious Diseases)

Immunogenicity and safety of a recombinant COVID-19 vaccine (ZF2001) as heterologous booster after priming with inactivated vaccine in healthy children and adolescents aged 3-17 years: an open-labeled, single-arm clinical trial
Considering that neutralizing antibody levels induced by two doses of the inactivated vaccine decreased over time and had fallen to low levels by 6 months, and homologous and heterologous booster immunization ... (Source: BMC Infectious Diseases)

Early predictors of delayed radiographic resolution of lobar pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae in children: a retrospective study in China
Lobar pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a relatively difficult-to-treat pneumonia in children. The time of radiographic resolution after treatment is variable, a long recovery time can result in severa... (Source: BMC Infectious Diseases)

Virulence, antibiotic resistance phenotypes and molecular characterisation of Vibrio furnissii isolates from patients with diarrhoea
Vibrio furnissii is an emerging human pathogen closely related to V. fluvialis that causes acute gastroenteritis. V. furnissii infection has been reported to be rarer than V. fluvialis, but a multi-drug resistanc... (Source: BMC Infectious Diseases)

Impact of an ICU bed capacity optimisation method on the average length of stay and average cost of hospitalisation following implementation of Chinas open policy with respect to COVID-19: a difference-in-differences analysis based on information management system data from a tertiary hospital in southwest China
Conclusions This study corroborates a significant positive impact of ICU bed optimisation in mitigating the shortage of medical resources following an epidemic outbreak. The findings hold theoretical and practical implications for identifying effective emergency coordination strategies in managing hospital bed resources during sudden public health emergency events. These insights contribute to the advancement of resource management practices and the promotion of experiences in dealing with public health emergencies. (Source: BMJ Open)

Community antibiotic prescribing in patients with COVID-19 across three pandemic waves: a population-based study in Scotland, UK
Conclusion Community antibiotic prescriptions in COVID-19 episodes were uncommon in this population and likelihood was associated with patient factors. The reduction over pandemic waves may represent increased knowledge regarding COVID-19 treatment and/or evolving symptomatology. (Source: BMJ Open)

Molecular epidemiological and clinical infection characteristics analysis of Ralstonia
ConclusionWe established a sequence typing system with a relatively fine resolution and the PCR assay is a faster and more sensitive method for clinical identification ofRalstonia pickettii. ST9 is the most common sequence types ofRalstonia pickettii. The most common clinical characteristics ofRalstonia pickettii infected patients were cough, sputum, shortness of breath and pulmonary rales. Severe cellulitis from methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in a couple of preterm twins: a case report
ConclusionsDue to the characteristic antibiotic resistance of MRSA and the potential complications of those infections in such delicate patients, basic prevention measures still represent the key to avoid the spreading of neonatal MRSA infections in NICUs, which include hand hygiene and strict precautions, as well as screening of patients for MRSA on admission and during hospital stay, routine prophylactic topical antibiotic of patients, enhanced environmental cleaning, cohorting and isolation of positive patients, barrier precautions, avoidance of ward crowding, and, in some units, surveillance, education and decolonizati...

IJERPH, Vol. 21, Pages 501: Sexually Transmitted Infections in Adolescents and Young Adults: A Cross Section of Public Health
Conclusions. The literature for other countries reports the need for comprehensive, culturally and developmentally sensitive care to address sexuality-related issues in adolescents and young adults, a need that also applies to Italy. These data will be of great importance in adopting evidence-based STI control programs in Marche Region. This study could, indeed, represent a landmark for public health officials and professionals, with the aim of promoting adolescents’ access to sexual health services to receive useful information, strengthening preventive measures in younger age groups, and designing sexual ed...
