Plasmapheresis in thyrotoxicosis: a single-center case series
Discussion/conclusionThe standard management of thyrotoxicosis and thyroid storm was usually codified by the concomitant use of antithyroid medication, iodine, beta-blockers, and corticosteroids. This medical preparation can be effective in most cases. However, drug toxicity or ineffectiveness can limit the use of such therapeutics. Our paper supports the efficiency and safety of therapeutic plasma exchange in the preoperative management of thyrotoxicosis. (Source: Journal of Medical Case Reports)

Risk Factors for Thyroid Dysfunction in Pregnancy: An Individual Participant Data Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: The risk factors assessed in this study had poor predictive ability for detecting thyroid function test abnormalities, questioning their clinical usability for targeted screening. As expected, TPOAb positivity (used as a benchmark) was a relevant risk factor for (subclinical) hypothyroidism. These results provide insights into different risk factors for gestational thyroid dysfunction.PMID:38546971 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0646 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Vitamin E intake and prevalence rates of thyroid dysfunction and autoimmune thyroiditis: A cross-sectional analysis of NHANES data
CONCLUSION: The findings of this study suggest that a higher intake of vitamin E is associated with lower prevalence rates of SCH and autoimmune thyroiditis among males.PMID:38534308 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0561 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Hyperthyroidism in non-seminomatous testicular germ cell tumors: two case reports and literature review
ConclusionDespite being a rare event, the presence of hyperthyroidism or thyrotoxicosis without clear etiology in a young man should lead to consider less frequent causes such as testicular tumors. Even if patients typically have mild symptoms that resolve after chemotherapy, in rare cases, it can be a life-threatening condition that requires prompt recognition and specific intervention. Prospective Analysis of Lipid Variations in Hyperthyroid Subjects from Lahore, Pakistan
Biomed Res Int. 2021 Sep 3;2021:9936782. doi: 10.1155/2021/9936782. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTPerturbations in the actions of T3 and T4 influence the normal metabolic pathways. Responsiveness of lipid biomarkers like LDL-C, HDL-C, TC, TG, Apo-A, and Apo-B after rehabilitation of thyroid profile attaining euthyroid state was determined. A total of 179 age-matched subjects of both genders were recruited for this research. Sixty healthy controls, thirty-four subclinical, fifty overt hyperthyroid, and thirty-five follow-up subjects having 3 months of Carbimazole therapy were enrolled. Biochemical analysis was performed by chemi...

A Case of Vitiligo Combined with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Treated with Tofacitinib
This report presents a unique case of a vitiligo patient with concomitant systemic lupus erythematosus. Remarkably, after a 30-day course of treatment with tofacitinib, complete repigmentation of the white macular rash was achieved, and there were no adverse drug reactions. These findings provide compelling evidence for the efficacy and safety of oral JAK inhibitors, such as tofacitinib, in vitiligo treatment. Additionally, JAK inhibitors can yet be regarded as a promising new treatment option for vitiligo patients with concurrent autoimmune diseases.PMID:38524393 | PMC:PMC10961069 | DOI:10.2147/CCID.S448535 (Source: Clini...
