Partial resistance to thyroid hormone-induced tachycardia and cardiac hypertrophy in mice lacking thyroid hormone receptor β
CONCLUSIONS: The phenotyping of TRβ-KO mice conducted at thermoneutrality allows novel insights on the role of TRβ in cardiac functions in absence of the usual confounding hyperthyroidism. Even though TRβ is expressed at lower levels than TRα1 in the heart, our findings demonstrate an important role for this isoform in the cardiac response to thyroid hormones.PMID:38526409 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0638 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

A Case of Vitiligo Combined with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Treated with Tofacitinib
This report presents a unique case of a vitiligo patient with concomitant systemic lupus erythematosus. Remarkably, after a 30-day course of treatment with tofacitinib, complete repigmentation of the white macular rash was achieved, and there were no adverse drug reactions. These findings provide compelling evidence for the efficacy and safety of oral JAK inhibitors, such as tofacitinib, in vitiligo treatment. Additionally, JAK inhibitors can yet be regarded as a promising new treatment option for vitiligo patients with concurrent autoimmune diseases.PMID:38524393 | PMC:PMC10961069 | DOI:10.2147/CCID.S448535 (Source: Clini...

The need for the GREAT+  score to predict relapse in Graves’ disease: a questionnaire among patients and internal medicine specialists
ConclusionPatients and physicians considered the GREAT+  score as a valuable addition to the current available information which could change treatment decisions. Therefore, external validation of the GREAT+ score is justified to implement this score in clinical practice. (Source: Journal of Endocrinological Investigation)

The global prevalence of sexual dysfunction in men with thyroid gland disorders: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusionthe global prevalence of sexual dysfunction in men with TGD was found relatively high. also, the highest prevalence of sexual disorders was reported in hypothyroid cases. Thus, health policymakers are suggested to inform the individuals prone to this pathology regarding the negative effects of TGD on sexual dysfunction. Besides, TGD-affected cases can prevent sexual disorders and unpleasant consequences through timely medical treatments. (Source: Journal of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders)

Immune-related adverse events associated with first-line immune checkpoint inhibitors for metastatic renal cell carcinoma: A systematic review and network meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: The analysis focused on the probability of irAEs occurrence in each system when mRCC patients were treated with different ICI-based therapies, potentially offering significant value for guiding clinical prevention, early diagnosis, and management of irAEs. The limitations of the study included the potential heterogeneity and low certainty of part of the evidence.PMID:38518592 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2024.111884 (Source: International Immunopharmacology)

Causal association between thyroid dysfunction and sepsis: a two-sample mendelian randomization study
ConclusionsThis study identified a causal link between hypothyroidism and the occurrence of asthma-associated pneumonia or sepsis, and other sepsis, but not with the development of streptococcal sepsis and puerperal sepsis. Moreover, our findings did not reveal any causal association between hyperthyroidism and streptococcal sepsis, puerperal sepsis, asthma-associated pneumonia or sepsis, and other sepsis. Brain Calcifications Secondary to Idiopathic Hyperthyroidism and Hypoparathyroidism
Conclusion: This case provides important documentation for including hypocalcemia as a result of hypoparathyroidism in the differential diagnosis of patients with seizures. The treatment approach used with our patient can be considered for managing seizures in cases where the underlying cause is challenging to identify. This case highlights the importance of a thorough evaluation and individualized treatment plan for patients with seizures.PMID:38510220 | PMC:PMC10949054 | DOI:10.31486/toj.23.0004 (Source: Ochsner Journal)
