SARS-Cov-2 Infection: A New Risk Factor for Pituitary Apoplexy?
CONCLUSION: Alongside known risk factors (hypertension, anticoagulation, pregnancy, surgery, etc.), COVID-19 infection might represent an emerging predisposing factor for PA onset. The two cases hereby presented are both significant: the first confirms the role of "classic" vascular predisposing factors for PA, while the second demonstrates that PA might arise also in young patients without known risk factors.PMID:38676521 | DOI:10.2174/0118715303315494240419060719 (Source: Endocrine, Metabolic and Immune Disorders Drug Targets)

Novel Leptin-Cardiac TRH pathway responsible for the cardiac alterations in the Hyperleptinemic obesity
Mol Cell Biochem. 2024 Apr 27. doi: 10.1007/s11010-024-05008-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe association between hypertension and obesity-induced cardiac damage is usually accepted. However, no studies have been focused on cardiac alterations in obesity, independently of blood pressure increase. It is well known that Cardiac TRH induces Left Ventricular Hypertrophy (LVH) and fibrosis, and its inhibition prevents the development of hypertrophy. Also, it has been described that the adiponectin leptin induces TRH expression. Thus, we hypothesized that in obesity, the increase in TRH induced by hyperleptinemia is responsi...

Impression life with pulmonary hypertension: clinically relevant characteristics and quality of life among patients in Gansu, China
CONCLUSION: HRQoL was substantially reduced among PAH patients in the resource-limited area, mainly the physiological functions. WHO-FC and anxiety scores were independently associated with both PCS and MCS in SF-36. Clinicians should make reasonable rehabilitation programs and plans for patients according to their cardiac function grade and the severity of clinical symptoms. In addition, psychological interventions should also be taken, especially for those with anxiety symptoms, so as to improve their HRQoL.PMID:38676370 | PMC:PMC11055475 | DOI:10.1177/17534666241246428 (Source: Adv Data)

The short and long-term efficacy of nurse-led interventions for improving blood pressure control in people with hypertension in primary care settings: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Nurse-led interventions may be more effective than usual care for achieving BP control at long-term follow-up. It is important to continue lifestyle modification for people with hypertension. We must pay attention to adverse events, and more studies examining appropriate BP targets are needed. Nurse-led care represents an important complement to primary physician-led usual care.PMID:38678180 | PMC:PMC11056068 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-024-02380-x (Source: Primary Care)

Investigation of the Association between Bilateral Selective Anterograde Cerebral Perfusion and Postoperative Ischemic Stroke in Obese Patients with Emergency Surgery for Acute Type A Aortic Dissection
Conclusions: A patient-tailored strategy for cerebral perfusion should be considered in obese patients, considering the high atheromatous burden of the supra-aortic vessels in these patients and the potential risk of atheromatous embolization associated with this technique.PMID:38674307 | PMC:PMC11052173 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040661 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

Noninvasive Ambulatory Electrocardiographic Markers from Patients with COVID-19 Pneumonia: A Report of Three Cases
Medicina (Kaunas). 2024 Apr 19;60(4):655. doi: 10.3390/medicina60040655.ABSTRACTCoronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has affected medical practice. More than 7,000,000 patients died worldwide after being infected with COVID-19; however, no specific laboratory markers have yet been established to predict death related to this disease. In contrast, electrocardiographic changes due to COVID-19 include QT prolongation and ST-T changes; however, there have not been studies on the ambulatory electrocardiographic markers of COVID-19. We encountered three patients diagnosed as having COVID-19 who did not have a prior history of sig...

Treatment Nonadherence among Multimorbid Chronic Disease Patients: Evidence from 3515 Subjects in Indonesia
Conclusions: While the prevalence of multimorbidity in Indonesia is generally similar to that observed in previous studies, we have identified patient characteristics related to nonadherence. We suggest that patient's nonadherence was primarily dictated by their self-perception of health and treatment complexity. With the longstanding issue of nonadherence, this study indicated the need to consider creating patient-tailored treatment programs in clinical practice to improve adherence by considering individual patients' characteristics.PMID:38674280 | PMC:PMC11052292 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040634 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

Diagnosis of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension after acute pulmonary embolism: data from a practice-based longitudinal cohort
CONCLUSIONS: The low CTEPH incidence rate after acute PE in the present analysis suggests low awareness of CTEPH. It further suggests a lack of systematic follow-up protocols for acute PE survivors in the real world. Improved implementation of existing recommendations on follow-up strategies post PE is warranted.PMID:38677594 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtha.2024.04.009 (Source: Thrombosis and Haemostasis)

Hypotensive drugs mitigate the high-sodium diet-induced pro-inflammatory activation of mouse macrophages in vivo
Biomed Pharmacother. 2024 Apr 26;175:116648. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2024.116648. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNowadays, there is an increasing emphasis on the need to alleviate the chronic inflammatory response to effectively treat hypertension. However, there are still gaps in our understanding on how to achieve this. Therefore, research on interaction of antihypertensive drugs with the immune system is extremely interesting, since their therapeutic effect could partly result from amelioration of hypertension-related inflammation, in which macrophages seem to play a pivotal role. Thus, current comprehensive studies have i...

Late onset of com-plications from Salmonella meningitis warrants more thorough neurodevelopmental follow-ups.PMID:38676483 | DOI:10.2174/0118715265286206240402050756 (Source: Infectious Disorders Drug Targets)

Integrative Bioinformatics-Gene Network Approach Reveals Linkage between Estrogenic Endocrine Disruptors and Vascular Remodeling in Peripheral Arterial Disease
Int J Mol Sci. 2024 Apr 19;25(8):4502. doi: 10.3390/ijms25084502.ABSTRACTVascular diseases, including peripheral arterial disease (PAD), pulmonary arterial hypertension, and atherosclerosis, significantly impact global health due to their intricate relationship with vascular remodeling. This process, characterized by structural alterations in resistance vessels, is a hallmark of heightened vascular resistance seen in these disorders. The influence of environmental estrogenic endocrine disruptors (EEDs) on the vasculature suggests a potential exacerbation of these alterations. Our study employs an integrative approach, comb...

Diabetic Cardiomyopathy-From Basics through Diagnosis to Treatment
Biomedicines. 2024 Mar 29;12(4):765. doi: 10.3390/biomedicines12040765.ABSTRACTDiabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is the development of myocardial dysfunction in patients with diabetes despite the absence of comorbidities such as hypertension, atherosclerosis or valvular defect. The cardiovascular complications of poorly controlled diabetes are very well illustrated by the U.K. Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS), which showed a clear association between increasing levels of glycated hemoglobin and the development of heart failure (HF). The incidence of HF in patients with diabetes is projected to increase significantly, which i...
