The Tricuspid Valve: A Review of Pathology, Imaging, and Current Treatment Options: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association
Circulation. 2024 Apr 25. doi: 10.1161/CIR.0000000000001232. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTricuspid valve disease is an often underrecognized clinical problem that is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Unfortunately, patients will often present late in their disease course with severe right-sided heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and life-limiting symptoms that have few durable treatment options. Traditionally, the only treatment for tricuspid valve disease has been medical therapy or surgery; however, there have been increasing interest and success with the use of transcatheter tricuspid valve ther...

Performance of home-based and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring in obese children and their correlation with end organ damage
CONCLUSION: The study highlights 24-hour ABPM's vital role in classifying hypertensive status, especially in high-risk children. The diagnostic performance of HBPM shows poor sensitivity in detecting MH and lower specificity in identifying WCH compared to ABPM. This limitation translates to missed opportunities for early preventive interventions.PMID:38661395 | DOI:10.1093/ajh/hpae049 (Source: American Journal of Hypertension)

Environmental Impacts on Cardiovascular Health and Biology: An Overview
Circ Res. 2024 Apr 26;134(9):1048-1060. doi: 10.1161/CIRCRESAHA.123.323613. Epub 2024 Apr 25.ABSTRACTEnvironmental stressors associated with human activities (eg, air and noise pollution, light disturbance at night) and climate change (eg, heat, wildfires, extreme weather events) are increasingly recognized as contributing to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. These harmful exposures have been shown to elicit changes in stress responses, circadian rhythms, immune cell activation, and oxidative stress, as well as traditional cardiovascular risk factors (eg, hypertension, diabetes, obesity) that promote cardiovascular d...

Mind the Gap in Kidney Care: Translating What We Know  Into What We Do
Iran J Kidney Dis. 2024 Mar;18(2):68-86. doi: 10.5254/sqbbj216.ABSTRACTHistorically, it takes an average of 17 years to move new treatments from clinical evidence to daily practice. Given the highly effective treatments now available to prevent or delay kidney disease onset and progression, this is far too long. The time is now to narrow the gap between what we know and what we do. Clear guidelines exist for the prevention and management of common risk factors for kidney disease, such as hypertension and diabetes, but only a fraction of people with these conditions worldwide are diagnosed, and even fewer are treated to tar...

The Association Between Unintended Pregnancy and Perinatal Outcomes in Low ‐Risk Pregnancies: A Retrospective Registry Study in the Netherlands
This study used data (N = 9803) from a Dutch nationally representative registry of people with low-risk pregnancies receiving primary midwife-led care in the Netherlands between 2012 and 2020. Using logistic (mediation) regression analyses adjusted for potential confounders we investigated associations between unintended pregnancy and neonatal outcomes (low Apgar score, small for gestational age, and prematurity), parental morbidity (hypertension and gestational diabetes mellitus), and obstetric interventions (induction of labor, pain medication, assisted vaginal birth, and cesarean birth) and whether delayed initiation of...
