Hyperuricemia research progress in model construction and traditional Chinese medicine interventions
This article reports on the use of TCM components for uric acid (UA)-lowering activity with excellent efficacy and low side effects based on established HUA models. This work summarizes the advantages and limitations of various HUA disease models for efficacy evaluation. Applications of TCM in HUA treatment have also been discussed in detail. This paper reveals recent research progress on HUA in constructing evaluation models and systematic TCM interventions. It will provide a scientific reference for establishing the HUA model and suggest future TCM-related HUA studies. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Exploring the Causal Associations of Micronutrients on Urate Levels and the Risk of Gout: A Mendelian Randomization Study
Growing evidence has indicated a potential association between micronutrient levels, urate levels, and the risk of gout. However, the causal association underlying these associations still remains uncertain. Previous observational studies and randomized controlled trials investigating the association between micronutrients, urate levels, and the risk of gout have been limited in their scope and depth. The aim of this study was to utilize Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the causal associations between genetically predicted micronutrient levels, urate levels, and the risk of gout. Coffee intake reduced gout risk by decreasing urate and urea while increasing SHBG levels in plasma: a mediation Mendelian randomization study
ConclusionCoffee intake reduced gout risk by decreasing urate and urea while increasing SHBG levels in plasma. These findings accentuate the benefits of coffee intake for gout management. The mediators may provide a novel insight into potential therapeutic targets for gout prevention.Key Points• This study determines the causally protective effect of coffee intake on gout.• We reveal that coffee intake reduced the risk of gout by decreasing urate and urea while increasing SHBG levels in plasma.• Identifying specific mediators in the causal pathway from coffee intake to gout provides valuable information for clinical ...

Epidemiology of gout - Global burden of disease research from 1990 to 2019 and future trend predictions
CONCLUSION: With the development of society, the disease burden of gout will become increasingly severe. It is very important to study the accurate epidemiological data on gout for clinical diagnosis and treatment and health policy.PMID:38439915 | PMC:PMC10910883 | DOI:10.1177/20420188241227295 (Source: Adv Data)

Global burden and epidemic trends of gout attributable to high body mass index from 1990 to 2019
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide evidence for the burden of gout caused by high BMI. Developing a weight management plan and lifestyle habits for groups severely affected by gout will effectively reduce the global disease and economic burden.PMID:38414454 | PMC:PMC10895944 | DOI:10.5114/aoms/175469 (Source: Archives of Medical Science)
