Hesperidin activates Nrf2 to protect cochlear hair cells from cisplatin-induced damage
This study employs both in vivo and in vitro models of cisplatin ototoxicity to explore this possibility. Our results reveal that hesperidin mitigates cisplatin-induced ototoxicity by activating the Nrf2/NQO1 pathway in sensory hair cells, thereby reducing ROS accumulation, preventing hair cell apoptosis, and alleviating hearing loss.PMID:38629504 | DOI:10.1080/13510002.2024.2341470 (Source: Redox Report : communications in free radical research)

Isoflavones isolated from the fruits of Ficus altissima and their anti-proliferative activities
In this study, we isolated and identified one new isoflavone (1), three new hydroxycoumaronochromones (2a, 2b and 3a) and 12 known compounds from the fruits of F. altissima. Their chemical structures were determined using spectroscopic analysis methods. We also tested all the isolated compounds for their anti-proliferative activities against eight human tumour cell lines (A-549, AGS, K562, K562/ADR, HepG2, HeLa, SPC-A-1 and CNE2) using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Our experiments showed that compound 6 exhibited obvious anti-proliferative activity against the K562 cell line...

Cyclopeptide alkaloids from the Greek shrub < em > Paliurus spina < /em > - < em > christi < /em > and their < em > in silico < /em > binding affinity to Dipeptidyl Peptidase IV
Nat Prod Res. 2024 Apr 17:1-11. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2024.2340755. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA new cyclopeptide alkaloid, spinachristene A (1), along with two previously described, sanjoinenine (2) and oxyphylline C (3), were isolated from the fruits of Paliurus spina-christi Mill. All three metabolites are being isolated for the first time from the genus Paliurus. A model for the in silico binding affinity of compounds 1-3 to Dipeptidyl Peptidase IV (DPP4), which is related to type 2 diabetes (T2D), was developed. According to our model, compounds 1-3 were ranked in positions 9/12, 11/12 and 8/12, respectively and ar...

The impact of prenatal mercury on neurobehavioral functioning longitudinally assessed from a young age to pre-adolescence in a Spanish birth cohort
CONCLUSION: Despite elevated prenatal THg exposure, no association was found with children's behavioural functioning assessed from early childhood to pre-adolescence. The nutrients in fish could offset the potential neurotoxic impact of Hg. Further birth cohort studies with longitudinal data are warranted.PMID:38631469 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2024.118954 (Source: Environmental Research)

Influence of the use of remediated soil and agricultural drainage water on the safety of tomato fruits
In conclusion, the employed bioremediation techniques successfully reduced the PTE content and microbial load in both soil and drainage water ecosystems and in harvested tomato fruits. Henceforth, no health risks are expected from the consumption of this product.PMID:38632200 | DOI:10.1007/s11356-024-33187-z (Source: Environmental Science and Pollution Research International)
