Hesperidin activates Nrf2 to protect cochlear hair cells from cisplatin-induced damage
This study employs both in vivo and in vitro models of cisplatin ototoxicity to explore this possibility. Our results reveal that hesperidin mitigates cisplatin-induced ototoxicity by activating the Nrf2/NQO1 pathway in sensory hair cells, thereby reducing ROS accumulation, preventing hair cell apoptosis, and alleviating hearing loss.PMID:38629504 | PMC:PMC11025410 | DOI:10.1080/13510002.2024.2341470 (Source: Redox Report : communications in free radical research)

GSE262759 Shared Transcriptomic Signatures of Inflammaging Among Diverse Strains of Drosophila melanogaster
Contributors : Sabrina I Perna ; Weihao Tang ; Andrew Li ; Sydney D Blimbaum ; Lei ZhouSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Drosophila melanogasterBackground: A prominent hallmark of aging is inflammaging —the increased expression of innate immune genes without identifiable infection. Model organisms with shorter lifespans, such as the fruit fly, provide an essential platform for probing the mechanisms of inflammaging. Multiple groups have reported that, like mammalian models, old flies have signif icantly higher levels of expression of anti-microbial peptide genes. However, wheth...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1525: Dichloroacetate and Quercetin Prevent Cell Proliferation, Induce Cell Death and Slow Tumor Growth in a Mouse Model of HPV-Positive Head and Neck Cancer
h Miskimins Elevated glucose uptake and production of lactate are common features of cancer cells. Among many tumor-promoting effects, lactate inhibits immune responses and is positively correlated with radioresistance. Dichloroacetate (DCA) is an inhibitor of pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase that decreases lactate production. Quercetin is a flavonoid compound found in fruits and vegetables that inhibits glucose uptake and lactate export. We investigated the potential role and mechanisms of DCA, quercetin, and their combination, in the treatment of HPV-positive head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, an antigenic cancer su...

Association of sugary drinks, carbonated beverages, vegetable and fruit juices, sweetened and black coffee, and green tea with subsequent depression: a five-year cohort study
Evidence on the impact of beverage consumption on depression is limited in the Asian population. Specifically, there is little information available on vegetable and fruit juices, while whole vegetables and fruits are reportedly protective against depression. Furthermore, evidence is scarce in differentiating the impacts of sweetened and black coffee. We aimed to examine the association of the consumption of total sugary drinks, carbonated beverages, vegetable and fruit juices, sweetened and black coffee, and green tea with subsequent depression in a general population sample. Pectin: Health-promoting properties as a natural galectin-3 inhibitor
AbstractGalectin-3 has a variety of important pathophysiological significance in the human body. Much evidence shows that the abnormal expression of galectin-3 is related to the formation and development of many diseases. Pectin is mostly obtained from processed citrus fruits and apples and is a known natural inhibitor of galactin-3. A large number of peels produced each year are discarded, and it is necessary to recycle some of the economically valuable active compounds in these by-products to reduce resource waste and environmental pollution. By binding with galectin-3, pectin can directly reduce the expression level of ...
