Therapeutic Molecular Phenotype of {beta}-Blocker-Associated Reverse-Remodeling in Nonischemic Dilated Cardiomyopathy [Original Articles]
Conclusions— In addition to known gene expression changes, additional calcium-handling, sarcomeric, adrenergic signaling, and metabolic genes were associated with reverse-remodeling. The pattern suggests a fetal–adult paradigm but may be because of reversal of gene expression controlled by a β1-adrenergic receptor gene network. Anterior segment morphologic changes related to α-1 adrenergic receptor antagonists use.
CONCLUSIONS: In this study, decreased ACD, ACV, ACA width, and PD values were detected in tamsulosin and doxazosin groups when compared to controls. These findings should be considered during anterior segment examinations and surgeries. PMID: 25907289 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Simultaneous determination of phentermine and topiramate in human plasma by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry with positive/negative ion-switching electrospray ionization and its application in pharmacokinetic study.
Abstract A new method for simultaneous determination of phentermine and topiramate by liquid chromatography/electrospray tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) operated in positive and negative ionization switching modes was developed and validated. Protein precipitation with acetonitrile was selected for sample preparation. Analyses were performed on a liquid chromatography system employing a Kromasil 60-5CN column (2.1mm×100mm, 5μm) and an isocratic elution with mixed solution of acetonitrile-20mM ammonium formate containing 0.3% formic acid (40:60, v/v), at a flow rate of 0.35mL/min. Doxazosin mesylate a...

Potential Anti-cancer Drugs Commonly Used for Other Indications.
Abstract An increasing resistance of mammalian tumor cells to chemotherapy along with the severe side effects of commonly used cytostatics have raised the urgency in the search for new anti-cancer agents. Drugs approved for indications other than cancer treatment that have a newly recognized cytostatic effect on cancer cells represent promising anti-cancer agents, as these could be rapidly repurposed for this new indication, given their previous toxicity testing in humans and animals. Groups of newly recognized potential cytostatics discussed in this review include benzimidazole anthelmintics (albendazole,...

What is the best option for 10–20mm renal pelvic stones undergoing ESWL in the pediatric population: stenting, alpha blockers or conservative follow-up?
In this study we aimed to identify the effect of three different modalities (stenting, doxazosin and conservative follow-up) on stone free rates and complication rates for 10–20mm renal pelvic stones in pediatric patients who underwent shock wave lithotripsy. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

How to choose first‐line treatment for men with predominant storage lower urinary tract symptoms: a prospective randomised comparative study
ConclusionsThe rate of improved outcome was comparable between first‐line tolterodine and doxazosin monotherapy for male storage LUTS. Antimuscarinic monotherapy was suggested for men with smaller prostate volume and higher urgency symptom scores, whereas α‐blocker monotherapy was suggested for those with higher voiding symptom scores. Effect of Longbishu Capsule (癃闭舒胶囊) plus doxazosin on benign prostatic hyperplasia: A randomized controlled trial
Conclusions The treatment of LBS alone or LBS plus doxazosin was able to significantly improve IPSS in patients with BPH. The treatments may reduce the increase in prostate volume and postvoid residual urine volume as well. (Source: Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine)

Validated HPTLC method for the simultaneous determination of alfuzosin, terazosin, prazosin, doxazosin and finasteride in pharmaceutical formulations
Publication date: August 2014 Source:Analytical Chemistry Research, Volume 1 Author(s): Tarek S. Belal , Mohamed S. Mahrous , Magdi M. Abdel-Khalek , Hoda G. Daabees , Mona M. Khamis Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the most common chronic diseases affecting men and it increases in both incidence and prevalence with age. This work presents a simple, sensitive and fast generic high performance thin layer chromatographic (HPTLC) method for the simultaneous determination of five drugs prescribed for the treatment of BPH. These drugs include the α1-adrenergic blockers; alfuzosin hydrochloride (ALF), teraz...

Minoxidil‐Associated Anorexia in an Infant with Refractory Hypertension
We describe an infant girl, born at 35 weeks of gestation, who was diagnosed with idiopathic hypertension after extensive diagnostic evaluation. Adequate blood pressure control was not achieved with captopril, amlodipine, and clonidine. Oliguria secondary to captopril and rapid‐onset congestive heart failure due to persistent hypertension led to the introduction of intravenous agents labetalol and nitroprusside. Although adequate blood pressure control was achieved, attempts to transition back to oral agents were unsuccessful, prompting the use of minoxidil as an alternative agent. Although good blood pressure control w...

Pulse release of doxazosin from hydroxyethylcellulose compression coated tablet: Mechanistic and in vivo study.
Abstract Chronotherapeutically programmed hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) based compression coated doxazosin tablets were prepared and the influence of disintegrants croscarmellose sodium, L-hydroxypropylcellulose (L-HPC), gellan gum on drug release and in vivo performance were investigated. Infrared spectroscopy and Differential scanning calorimetric studies did not indicate any excipient incompatibility in the tablets. The disintegrants induced a continuous water influx resulting in a rapid expansion of the membrane. The subsequent formation of fractures in to the coats leads to a fast drug release after an ...
