Alpha1-adrenergic antagonists block 6-nitrodopamine contractions on the rat isolated epididymal vas deferens
Eur J Pharmacol. 2021 Dec 21:174716. doi: 10.1016/j.ejphar.2021.174716. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACT6-nitrodopamine (6-ND) is released from rat isolated vas deferens and modulates electrical-field stimulation (EFS) contractions of the rat isolated epididymal vas deferens (RIEVD) via a specific receptor which is blocked by tricyclic antidepressants. Here, the effects of selective α1-adrenergic receptor antagonists on RIEVD contractions induced by 6-ND, dopamine, noradrenaline, adrenaline and EFS were investigated. Doxazosin and tamsulosin (3-10 nM) caused significant rightward shifts of the concentration-response curve t...

alpha1-Adrenergic receptor mediates adipose-derived stem cell sheet-induced protection against chronic heart failure after myocardial infarction in rats
In conclusion, doxazosin abolished the beneficial effects of ADSC sheets on rat MI hearts as well as the enhancing effect of norepinephrine on VEGF expression in ADSCs, indicating that ADSC sheets promote angiogenesis and prevent cardiac dysfunction and remodeling after MI via their α1-ARs.PMID:34853408 | DOI:10.1038/s41440-021-00802-2 (Source: Cell Research)

Surgical outcomes in the pheochromocytoma surgery. Results from the PHEO-RISK STUDY
ConclusionPreoperative medical treatment and postsurgical monitoring of pheochromocytoma should be especially careful in patients with diabetes, cerebrovascular disease, higher levels of plasma glucose and urine free metanephrine and norepinephrine, and with pheochromocytomas>5  cm, due to the higher risk of postsurgical complications. Overexpression of GINS4 is associated with poor prognosis and survival in glioma patients
CONCLUSION: GINS4 is an independent prognostic factor that led to a poor prognosis of glioma. The present study revealed the probable underlying molecular mechanisms of GINS4 in glioma and provided a potential target for improving the prognosis of glioma.PMID:34556022 | DOI:10.1186/s10020-021-00378-0 (Source: Molecular Medicine)

Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome: an updated review of literature
In conclusion, awareness of the risk factors associated with IFIS, their detailed preoperative assessment and intraoperative measures and surgical intervention is crucial in addressing IFIS. Lack of awareness can turn a routine, uneventful surgery into one with significant visual morbidity. (Source: International Ophthalmology)

The efficacy and safety of alpha-adrenergic blockers for medical expulsion therapy in patients with ureteral calculi: A meta-analysis of placebo-controlled trials
Conclusion: Although α-blockers cannot improve the overall ureteral stone clearance rate, these drugs are still effective for the treatment of stones in the distal urinary tract. However, the application of α-blockers is likely to cause dizziness and/or retrograde ejaculation. (Source: Medicine)

The Effects of Verapamil, Hydralazine, and Doxazosin on Renin, Aldosterone, and the Ratio Thereof
ConclusionWe conclude that the assumption that these drugs can be used with little consequence to the aldosterone-to-renin cannot be substantiated. While it is possible that they are indeed the best option when full antihypertensive drug cessation is infeasible, the potential effects of these drugs must still be taken into account when interpreting the aldosterone-to-renin ratio. What Is the Interaction between Urine C-Reactive Protein, Prostatic Inflammation, and Doxazosin Treatment in Patients with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia? A Pilot Study
Conclusion: Our results showed that C-reactive protein was detectable in urine, alpha-blocker treatment significantly reduced urine C-reactive protein levels, and the decrease was more prominent in severely symptomatic patients.Urol Int (Source: Urologia Internationalis)

Strange coincidence in the gut: Pseudomelanosis duodeni diagnosed by capsule endoscopy and active bleeding due to angiodysplasia
We present the case of an 82-year-old man with a medical history of hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, chronic renal failure, ischemic heart disease and iron deficiency anemia. He was under therapy with hydralazine, furosemide, amlodipine, valsartan, nitroglycerin patches, bisoprolol, omeprazole, doxazosin, human insulin and oral iron. The patient presented at our Institution with melena. Initial gastroscopy showed fresh blood and a gastric angiodysplasia that was treated with argon plasma coagulation (APC). Three months later, he suffered from a new episode of bleeding and consequently, a small bowel capsule e...

Efficacy and tolerability of doxazosin gastro-intestinal therapeutic system versus tamsulosin in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Background: Alpha1-adrenoceptor antagonists (α1-blockers) are first-line drugs for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). Doxazosin gastrointestinal therapeutic system (GITS) and tamsulosin belong to the 2 most frequently prescribed α1-blockers. This systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to compare the efficacy and tolerability of these 2 α1-blockers. Methods: A systematic review of published randomized controlled trials in English or Chinese language was performed using the PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang, and Vip databases...
