Thyrotoxic and pheochromocytoma multisystem crisis: a case report
ConclusionsSince he required more intensive cardiovascular management for thyrotoxic crisis, beta blockade was increased under intensive care unit monitoring even though initial alpha blockade is recommended in pheochromocytoma. When these crises occur simultaneously, cardiovascular management can be very challenging. (Source: Journal of Medical Case Reports)

Heterogeneity in Early Responses in ALLHAT (Antihypertensive and Lipid-Lowering Treatment to Prevent Heart Attack Trial)Novelty and Significance [Clinical Trials]
Randomized trials of hypertension have seldom examined heterogeneity in response to treatments over time and the implications for cardiovascular outcomes. Understanding this heterogeneity, however, is a necessary step toward personalizing antihypertensive therapy. We applied trajectory-based modeling to data on 39 763 study participants of the ALLHAT (Antihypertensive and Lipid-Lowering Treatment to Prevent Heart Attack Trial) to identify distinct patterns of systolic blood pressure (SBP) response to randomized medications during the first 6 months of the trial. Two trajectory patterns were identified: immediate responde...

The effects of alpha 1-adrenoceptor blockade and angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition on central and brachial blood pressure and vascular reactivity: the doxazosin –ramipril study
In conclusion, ramipril reduced indices of aortic stiffness, suggesting that angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor therapy may have effects beyond blood pressure reduction. However, treatment did not appear to influence endot helial function. Evidence of endothelial dysfunction and its possible improvement by antihypertensive treatment might require more advanced hypertension. This study is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02901977) and at EudraCT (# 2007-000631-25). UHPLC –MS/MS method with sample dilution to test therapeutic adherence through quantification of ten antihypertensive drugs in urine samples

In some cases the standard therapeutic approaches are not able to reestablish the normal blood pressure values: this condition is called “resistant hypertension”. However, a fraction of cases of resistant hypertensio...

Family history density of alcoholism and blood pressure as moderators for drinking reduction in alcohol-dependent individuals treated with doxazosin
Background: The α1 receptor antagonist, prazosin has been shown to reduce Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms and studies have revealed that pre-treatment blood pressure (BP) predicts therapeutic response for prazosin in PTSD patients. Furthermore, targeting the norepinephrine system may be a favorable t reatment strategy since evidence demonstrates that prazosin may reduce drinking in alcohol dependent (AD) patients. We investigated how doxazosin, another α1 receptor antagonist with a more favorable pharmacokinetic profile than prazosin, would be moderated by family history density (FHDA) and BP. α-adrenoceptor-mediated enhanced inducibility of atrial fibrillation in a canine system inflammation model.
Authors: Chen YY, Sun ZW, Jiang JP, Kang XD, Wang LL, Shen YL, Xie XD, Zheng LR Abstract The exact mechanism associated with inflammation and atrial fibrillation (AF) remains unknown. The aim of the present study was to investigate the roles of connexin 43 (Cx43) and a1‑adrenergic receptor (α1‑AR) activation in the pathogenesis of system inflammation‑induced AF. A canine model of chronic low‑grade system inflammation was established by administrating a low dose of lipopolysaccharide (LPS; 0.1 µg/kg) for 2 weeks. Programmed stimulation was applied on the right atrial appendage to determine the e...

Abstract 049: Smart Rx [Session Title: Poster Session I]
Conclusion: Use of prescription drugs known to cause major or moderate adverse events among patients with HF is quite common. An automated software platform for rapid real-time assessment of drug disease interactions can help identify gaps in care and help improve the quality of care among patients with cardiovascular disease and multiple comorbidities. Clinical study of duloxetine hydrochloride combined with doxazosin for the treatment of pain disorder in chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome: An observational study
Abstract: To explore the safety and efficacy of the selective 5-serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor duloxetine hydrochloride and alpha-adrenergic receptor blocker (alpha-blocker) doxazosin mesylate-controlled tablets in the treatment of pain disorder in chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS). In all, 150 patients were enrolled and 126 patients completed the study (41 patients in the doxazosin group, 41 patients in the sertraline group, and 44 patients in the duloxetine group). This was an open randomized 6-month study. CP/CPPS patients who met the diagnostic criteria were randomized into 3 ...
