< em > Gardnerella vaginalis < /em > : Is it an Underestimated Cause of Urinary Symptoms in Males?
CONCLUSION: With the introduction of multiplex PCR tests, including those for G. vaginalis, we can expect a higher detection rate of these species of bacteria in male genitourinary samples, which could be the cause of unexplained urinary/urethral symptoms.PMID:38633399 | PMC:PMC10986695 | DOI:10.36519/idcm.2022.172 (Source: Herpes)

Exploring the association between erythema multiforme and HIV infection: some mechanisms and implications
This article highlights the potential direct and indirect role that HIV infection may play in the development of EM and the clinical dilemma that arises in the management of HIV-infected patients with this condition. These patients may require additional medications to manage opportunistic infections, many of which can also trigger hypersensitivity reactions leading to EM.PMID:38637892 | PMC:PMC11027329 | DOI:10.1186/s12981-024-00607-6 (Source: AIDS Research and Therapy)

Estimates of the incidence, prevalence, and factors associated with common sexually transmitted infections among Lebanese women
CONCLUSIONS: The study documented active infection with substantial prevalence for multiple STIs among women attending outpatient gynecology and obstetrics clinics in Lebanon. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening STI surveillance, linkage to care, and prevention interventions in reducing STI incidence among women.PMID:38635688 | PMC:PMC11025747 | DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0301231 (Source: Herpes)

Aetiological molecular identification of sexually transmitted infections that cause urethral discharge syndrome and genital ulcer disease in Brazilian men: a nationwide study
Conclusion This study provided the acquisition of unprecedented data on the aetiology of UDS and GUD in Brazil, demonstrated the presence of a variety of pathogens in both sample types and reaffirmed the aetiologies known to be most prevalent globally. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Infections)

Understanding dynamics and overlapping epidemiologies of HIV, HSV-2, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis in sexual networks of men who have sex with men
CONCLUSION: STI epidemiologies demonstrate substantial overlap and associations, alongside nuanced differences that shape a unique pattern for each STI. Gonorrhea exhibits an "intermediate STI epidemiology," reflected by the highest average correlation coefficient with other STIs.PMID:38628844 | PMC:PMC11018893 | DOI:10.3389/fpubh.2024.1335693 (Source: Herpes)

Serological Screening of TORCH Pathogen Infections in Infertile Women of Childbearing Age in Northwest China
This study showed that in northwestern China the risk of acquiring primary infection by a TORCH pathogen among infertile women of childbearing age were still high, especially Toxoplasma gondii and Herpesvirus type 2 infection. Therefore, effective prevention strategies that include serological screening for TORCH should be implemented.PMID:38630173 | DOI:10.1007/s43032-024-01551-6 (Source: Herpes)

Exploring preconception health in adolescents and young adults: Identifying risk factors and interventions to prevent adverse maternal, perinatal, and child health outcomes-A scoping review
CONCLUSION: The scoping review identified a scarcity of evidence on preconception risk factors and interventions among adolescents and young adults. This underscores the crucial need for additional research on the subject.PMID:38630699 | DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0300177 (Source: Herpes)

A lentivirus-vectored feline erythropoietin gene therapy strategy in tissue culture and rodent models for the potential treatment of chronic renal disease-associated anemia
Am J Vet Res. 2024 Apr 20:1-12. doi: 10.2460/ajvr.23.12.0280. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of a third-generation lentivirus-based vector encoding the feline erythropoietin (EPO) (feEPO) gene in vitro and in rodent models in vivo. This vector incorporates a genetic mechanism to facilitate the termination of the therapeutic effect in the event of supraphysiologic polycythemia, the herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (HSV-TK) "suicide gene."ANIMALS: CFRK cells and replication-defective lentiviral vectors encoding feEPO were used for in vitro experiments...
