Mcat and working : my PI is guilt-tripping me
I work in a research lab as a technician and my PI gives me quite a lot of work. I am so busy that I eat lunch in only like 15-20 minutes and yet do not finish until at least 6 and normally 7 or 8. I also work during weekends to take care of my cells and do other random experiments so I pretty much work 60 hours per week. I am also planning to take mcat this June or maybe May. When I come back from work, I am quite burned out so I am having trouble studying. I thought about quitting and... Mcat and working : my PI is guilt-tripping me (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Disliking M3, worried about future
(obvious throwaway account due to post content) Everyone seems to get burned out during M3, and everyone has rotations they hate. But as we all fill out our paperwork for M4 and sign up for Step 2, etc, I'm secretly panicking because I haven't liked anything. I've been bored/eager to be dismissed on every required rotation thus far, and have pretty much already ruled out the two remaining required rotations left. I have friends who also dislike all the required rotations, but they're... Disliking M3, worried about future (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Burn out, general lack of care
Im sure I’m not the first and I won’t be the last - but does anyone else feel like their day-to-day is p.o.i.n.t.l.e.s.s.? I’m in my second year (no clinical experience yet) and every day I feel less and less inclined to care. Our classes have nothing to do with anything and the ones that are dental related are so poorly taught that I don’t learn at all. I’m top 15 in my class of 120 so it’s not for reasons such as ‘it’s too hard’...I’m just over it. Any other D2’s feeling this way? Does... Specialities where 30-40 hours is possible, happy with 80-120K per year
Hey all I'm a third year medical student, I've got the grades and letters to be competitive in the fields I am interested in (Derm, Peds and Ortho) but I'm feeling pretty burnt out I have a lot of hobbies I would like to pursue, I don't really care about salary but don't want to work more then 40hours per week after residency My ideal job would be 30hrs/week with a salary of at least 80K I prefer treatable conditions and do prefer some patient contact in my life I do like helping people... Humanities forced in curriculum?
A recent article has been released and seems to be making the rounds. The claim is that medical students who have more exposure to the humanities are more likely to be higher in empathy, "wisdom" (21 item scale), and less likely to burn out. I can seen this being true. But they seem making a case for including humanities in medical school. It was more exclusively laid out in an article referenced from 2015:... Humanities forced in curriculum? Boston vs. CHOP
Hi guys, I'm couples matching and my partner wants to list Boston programs first. I loved my Boston interview day but am pretty nervous about q4 28h call for seemingly all of 2nd and 3rd year. The CHOP residents just seemed better supported and less burned out. I also feel like Philly is more my speed and cost of living is more manageable than in Boston. My partner is applying OBGYN and feels Penn would be a step down in quality for him. I know either residency program would be amazing... Boston vs. CHOP (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I hate clinical pharmacy. Am I the only one?
I am in my last year of pharmacy school, and going through rotations really opened my eyes to how much I hate clinical pharmacy. As the time draws closer and closer to residency applications, I dread thinking about having to do clinical pharmacy work for the next year of my life before moving on to the unknown. I got pretty down on my last rotation, waking up every single morning way too early and being forced to do things that I hate so much. I am now burned out, and I have never hated... Survey: 42% of Physicians Report Burnout, Some Cite Depression
Medscape: Medscape Access //Burnout was reported at the highest rates by critical care physicians (48%), neurologists (48%), and family medicine doctors (47%). When mental illness gets personal - bridges burnt
Here is a posting some of you might find clinically interesting. Not the first either, as I can see. I suffer from bipolar disorder that I developed in graduate school when I was doing my MA in general psych. Motivated to overcome my challenges and succeed professionally, I decided at the time to continue pursuing my aspirations and finish my degree. I had goals of pursuing my PhD and making it in the field as a scientist-practitioner. I had a specific research interest. I graduated from... Burned out from private practice
Let me start by telling you guys a little bit about my background. I have been practicing for about 5 years. I have been in multispeciality as well. This is my "2nd" job. I practiced in an area of 1 million plus population. I see about 21-26 patients a day, not including surgery. Recently, I have been having second thoughts. I feel like private practice or podiatry practice is taking a toll on me. I am tired of listening to the patients complain, dealing with complications,... Where Should I Apply?
I'm a Canadian student but have US citizenship. My cumulative GPA is looking to be 3.85 (In my first semester of University, I got 3 A+'s, but burned out near the end of exam season and got a C in Gen. Chem I and a C- in Calculus. However, I picked myself back up and have gotten all A+'s for the rest of university). I'm currently in my third year, and it's looking like I'm gonna have another perfect year, so I'll have a 3.85 GPA going into 4th year when I'm applying. I did my MCAT... Where Should I Apply? Hospitalist Job + Outpatient GIM on week off feasible?
If one was resilient and lifestyle/time off wasn’t a huge factor, could an Internal Medicine graduate get a contract as a Hospitalist working every other week and then have their own private practice M-F on the off week and then have a golden weekend afterwards? Has anyone done this with some success. Obviously when someone gets older I’d imagine they’d burn out but initially has anyone tried this with any success and income satisfaction? Would it be feasible for patient safety to see... Hospitalist Job + Outpatient GIM on week off feasible? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

UMN-Twin Cities vs UI-Indianapolis Interview
Not sure if this is the right forum for choosing interviews, so I will repost on the pre-med general forum if it isn't I'm a Wisconsin resident currently accepted by MCW. I have had an interview with UW and at this point don't want to use a ton of energy/resources on more interviews because I am kind of burned out. However, the one thing I don't like about MCW is that it has a traditional grading system which hasn't made me withdraw from UMN or UI yet. I've been putting off the decision...
