Adults who do NOT have ADHD
Hi, all-- I'm a new attending several months out of residency. I'm working right now in a purely outpatient setting for a large hospital center. Patients are privately insured and much higher-fxn than I'm used to from residency. I feel like I'm going to burn out from seeing high-fxn people who have self-diagnosed ADHD and come to me for "ADHD evaluation." I did not see much ADHD in residency, and when I did, attendings were mainly focused on how to NOT give someone a rx for stimulants... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

People who did clinical work and found it wasn't for them, what happened next?
So I am an undergrad who is en route to apply for Clinical Psych PhD program, and am looking to be mostly clinically oriented. From my reading all these boards, it seems that most if not all people who set out to be mostly clinical find it boring or that it burns them out quickly or that they couldn't do it everyday. I was wondering if anyone here was that person who set out to be all clinical, found it was not for them and then moved on to something else in psychology: Are you still... Okay. I'm finally ready to say it.
I left the profession in February. In January I had a panic attack that landed me in the ER, and several weeks later, having lost 15 pounds (do you know how hard it is for a middle-aged woman to do that?) I realized that my job was literally killing me, and I quit that day. Yes, I know I burned a bridge by doing this, but I would have ended up IN that hospital if I had stayed one more day. In the meantime, I moved back to the city where I used to live (I loved living there, and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Possible transfer seeking advice
Hey guys, I know ultimately I’m going to make my own decision but I was hoping to see what you would do. I just finished my 3rd term at SGU and am in the class of 2023. I recently found out I was accepted to Cornell as a transfer, but I wouldn’t be able to start until August, would have to redo my 3rd term and would graduate in 2024. I know Cornell is the “higher ranked” school and it’s not as though I’m burnt out, but I don’t love the year of being a year “behind.” Money is not an issue so... burned out or depressed
Hi, I am a long time lurker and this is my first post. I am in my intern year at a categorical neurology residency. I don't know whether I am just burned out, or depressed, or both, but I am honestly not excited or looking forward to my actual neurology program. Every time I hear about how hard the PGY2s have to work, (ie several 24 hours calls during the week), I start to regret my choice in doing this specialty. I keep trying to reason the calls by thinking that all other subspecialties... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

EP looking to broaden scope, maybe purse some FM, maybe not.
Hey all, Nice to meet you all. I've been a fixture in the EM forum on here for a long time. Gotta admit it; I was really torn between EM and FM/IM when I matched. Now, I'm 11 years down the line, and I'm pretty sure I'm burned out of EM for keeps. Before anyone goes there (including myself), in no way do I think I can do an FP's job as well as any residency trained FP. I'm considering urgent care work, or maybe (some sort of) fellowship. The real jumping-off point here is: What could... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

ICU In Southern States
Does anybody know of contacts in Texas/Georgia area? 1)I've got a few offers in some southern states, but I'd love to be around a bigger Texas city (IE Houston or Dallas, maybe Atlanta). Heard Houston is mainly big managed groups like anesthesia managed corporations for anesthesia. 2) anybody actually done the locums' gig and lived in another city as your primary and just then just jet around? I'm single, no kids/family, I have a few good job offers, but kind of got burned on my first... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Delayed relief from DPPR?
Encountered a few of these, inject patient and 4 hours later they get relief and then pain comes back a day or two later. Physiologically it doesn't make much sense given the onset and duration of local anesthetics. Is it essentially a fluoro-guided trigger point injection? What do you do for these folks? Block again? Burn anyways? Tell them to buy a foam roller? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Question about # of new admits for Nocturnist
I am a recent grad who started working as a nocturnist. I was wondering what the average # of admissions is for a nocturnist. I don't know if I'm slow or what but I am having hard time seeing 10-12 pts every night. There is around 5-10 more patients that I don't get to that I have to bridge. So total of like 10-12 admits that I get through completely every night. But 5-10 more I have to bridge. At first, I thought I could handle anything. But now I'm getting burned out a little. So I was... Question about # of new admits for Nocturnist (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Feeling burnt out. Do I need to take 2 gap years?
How bad is it to apply without taking all of the prereqs? (Even though they will be completed before matriculation) I keep hearing that med schools don’t care if you dont have all the prereqs done for matriculation. I’m a non-trad (psych bachelors), URM and I have one more semester of prereqs after this semester. I really want to apply this upcoming June, if not I’ll have to take 2 gap years (I’m not having a good time with the online format and i need more clinical experience). I actually... Specializing in reconstructive burn surgery
Hello. I am currently a medical student, but I am pretty certain that I am interested in plastic/reconstructive surgery (specifically burn surgery). However, I am a bit confused about how to go about achieving this goal. I know matching straight into a 6-year PRS residency is so competitive that it might as well be impossible. I was thinking I would take the longer route of completing a general surgery residency first and then a plastic surgery fellowship afterwards. However, if I only want... Last week before Step 3 (third attempt)
I re-re-take Step 3 on Sep. 28. Two failed attempts so far. Been studying about 2 hours/day since Feb., and I have been on "research" electives (aka study at home most of the day) since the end of July. So far I have done: 1) a lot of Online MedEd lectures for my weakest topics 2) UWorld Step 2 CK QBank; now redoing all the questions I got incorrect (horrible; 20 something percentile) 3) UWorld Step 3 QBank (that's kinda burned out though because I've done it so many times; I'm scoring... Worrying about my clinic pts during my off time
First year fellow, starting to struggle with my continuity pts and worrying about them after I see then in clinic or after starting chemo. I worry I forget to follow up on abnormal labs and imaging and that ultimately something bad will happen to them and it would be my fault. I never had this problem with my continuity clinic for IM.... is it just me? Starting to burn me out... How do oncologists deal with this ? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anesthesiologist Sued In CRNA OR Fire Case
Updated Sep 08, 2020; Posted Sep 08, 2020 WILLIAMSPORT – A Lycoming County man burned in a fire while undergoing surgery has sued the hospital, two doctors, a nurse and an anesthesia firm. Their conduct and omissions constitute an “inexcusable systemic failure,” Alden J. Evans Sr. charges in a suit filed Friday in county court.
