What non-anesthesia conferences do you go to?
Hi all - I'm getting a bit burnt out from the usual anesthesia conferences and looking for something different and interesting to go to next year. Are there any non-anesthesia conferences that you've been to and recommend? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is my job as bad as I think it is?
Just want to know if I'm off base. Hoping yall can shed some light on if this is actually bad or if I'm just burned out. Pay ends up being around $300k per year, 7-7, decent cost of living area. census is 16-20 patients per day, usually 1-4+ are ICU, non-geo We also do rolling admission and do 1-2 admissions per day There have been times where I have 18 patients including 6 ICU patients and I do two admissions. Am I crazy for thinking that I'm under paid for this workload? Also, do... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What to do if you don ’t think vet school is for you anymore
I’ve been a student at Ross and I’m still feeling burned out and strained from that experience. I withdrew from their program in August and pretty much went straight into the masters program at LMU. I can’t say that I’m extremely happy. I’m not really enjoying the courses for the masters program (except for anatomy, which is taken with the vet students). And the little town is very similar to St Kitts as far as limited things go, but it’s definitely 150% better than the island. It just... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Best specialty for the burnt out, jaded 3rd year who has little passion left for medicine
Canadian MD student so we don’t do any of the steps. If you look at my previous posts, I was a hardcore ortho vs neurosurg gunner for the first 3 years. I’ve done as much exploring, shadowing and have completed all of my rotations at this point. I went through ortho just before 4th year electives and realized I was becoming more and more unhappy every day. The aggressive culture, the slavery, 1 in 4 call + staying post-call showed me that’s no way to live for me. As much as I enjoy... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

EM's Fatal Design Flaw (How To Use This Knowledge To Your Benefit)
It was a catastrophic failure of foresight and planning, to build the specialty Emergency Medicine into a form where 65% feel burned out, feel the need to exit and can't. Whether it was planned, or by accident is not important. It was terrible mistake by the Founding Mothers and Fathers, of EM. If EM was a subspecialty of other base specialties, every EM physician career would have a second specialty, built in. If you can stay in love with EM for a 30 year career, it works. If you fall out... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is this racist?
In a different thread, the topic of gun violence was being discussed. This comment was posted: "BLM protesters are seen as radical leftists and as wanting to burn down and destroy America. Gun owners are typically seen as patriots who love and want to defend America and build her up" I am not trying to get anyone into any trouble, nor have anyone banned or censured or anything. There was some disagreement on whether the above quote was racist, and I wanted to see what the general... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Help me decide which remaining secondaries to complete
Hey all, I’m getting burnt out on secondaries. I’ve submitted 33 so far after sending my primary about 50. I don’t know if I want to complete all the rest and I’m finding that the remaining ones seem like they’re not a good fit for various reasons, so I’m less enthusiastic than I was. For example, I doubt they’ll take me due to intense competition or yield protection, some are very low yield, some are research heavy and I’m not, etc. I need some motivation and focus! I also have an interview... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC; average DAT
I need some advice as I took my DAT and scored alot lower than my practice exams. I'm extremely disappointed and can’t even think about a retake right now because I'm so burnt out.I spent my entire summer doing research all day and then coming home and immediately having to study for this god awful exam which i ended up bombing anyways. Wondering if I should suck it up and retake or just switch out the schools on my list. I am applying next cycle and am currently freaking out. GPA: 3.89... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pushing meds for induction
I was just perusing Gaswork to look at the CRNA jobs in my area and there was header for the percent that Anesthesiologists push induction meds vs. CRNAs. Is this a thing? I’m not gonna lie, I don’t let the CRNAs I work with push induction meds all the time. I pick my spots, but if they’re sick then I want to be in control. I’ve been burned before, and I have kids to feed. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why is reddit so full of rainbows and butterflies regarding EM?
I don’t get it. We’re consistently the highest burn out specialty. We didn’t get there by being the happiest and most satisfied physicians with our careers. But dare anyone say anything negative on Reddit then everyone jumps claiming EM is the best thing since sliced bread. Maybe im just crusty… (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Another neurotic new grad needing reassurance (inpatient discharges)
Seems there's been a spate of these posts lately - must be the time of year. I've just started off on an inpatient unit and I'm feeling exactly like I did during intern year - just change afraid to order Tylenol with afraid to discharge patients. I got burned badly during my PGY3 year in which a seemingly low risk patient I advocated to discharge committed suicide within hours of leaving the hospital. Clearly I wasn't the one who officially signed off on that, but it still haunts me. Now... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Submitted 74 primaries... Which schools should I submit secondaries to?
Hi all, I am pretty burnt out. I applied to 74 schools out of which I have sent 47 secondaries. I am trying to figure out which other secondaries I should submit. Here are my stats: ORM, GA resident Bachelor's / Master's from Ivy Undergrad: 3.73 cumuluative GPA and 3.63 sGPA Masters: 3.83 GPA (5 As and 1 B) 506 MCAT in 2020 and 520 MCAT in 2023 4k hours as a life sciences consultant - clients included biotech and pharma and large part of work was... Is outpatient really that bad?
I moved to my dream mountain state! I'm currently a nocturnist working 10 nights a month in the form of 7 on 14 off. I swore off doing days as a hospitalist (Social issues, daily rounding, family meetings, needy patients, being asked to do admissions while already having a full team...) as I officially burned out. Nights are sweet and I'm a night owl but they're nights after all and taking a toll on my social life cuz I'm basically off grid for those 7 nights. The 14 days off are...
