CC is the next EM
I'm pretty sure most people are aware now that EM is undergoing substantial issues w/ it's job market 2/2 to multiple factors including midlevels, residency proliferation, COVID, etc. I am here to put forward the prediction that critical care is next within 10 years. I want to be wrong, because my SO is gun-ho about CC and I have been trying to convince her to pursue something else. I want her to pursue her passion, but at the same time I don't want her to get burned. Is there anything I'm... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I take a gap year?
Hey guys, I am pretty much all set to apply this cycle, but I have been having some second thoughts on whether I should take some time off to add more volunteer/research experience and mostly earn money and travel. My reasoning is that I haven't had time to just enjoy being young and I know there will be occasional free time if I apply this cycle, dental school is super busy and so is after graduation. I am not one to get burned out or stress too much, so those aren't really concerns. Just... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anyone LEAVE PHARMACY? What do you do know, and how'd you get there?
I am burnt out, and just don't want to practice anymore being a pharmacist (I've worked in retail, hospital, and mail order) . My mental, physical, and emotional health is a mess... and I can not for-see myself doing this for another 30+years... I am fortunate enough to have paid off my student loans, but have barely any savings.. I am unfazed at this point in getting a drastic pay cut, for the sake of sanity.. To those who left the profession, what do you do now? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Withdrawing Application from Schools
Hi all, I was recently accepted into more than one school and received a generous aid package. I am hoping to email the other schools that I will be withdrawing my application. I don't want to burn bridges for residency so am wording my emails carefully (though I know they won't really care). Is mentioning finances / being closer to home okay for reasons in the email? Or should I just not put why and decline the offer of admission? What's the consensus when sending these emails? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Endo residency life
Hello doctors, I am considering to apply for endo but was wondering how the typical life would be. I heard you can burn out from high patient loads and materials. 1)What is typical hours in endo specialty? 2)Is moonlighting also doable while you are in residency? 3)can you get finanacial aid in specialty program? 4)stipends in hospital based program seemed not enough to make a living. How do you handle? Thank you fellow doctors! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is Psych Residency Easier Than Medical School?
Im a med student interested in Psychiatry. I am extremely stressed and burnt out and what's especially distressing is the fact that I know residency will be worse. However, I've heard that Psych residency is typically not terrible. Is residency in Psychiatry sometimes better than medical school? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Nursing Shortage
It is getting so bad. All these travel nurses, nurses going NP, and COVID burn out is taking a huge toll on nursing staff where I am. I imagine you all are noticing the same thing. The new thing is for all full time nurses to go day shift and all travel nurses to go night shift. Are you all having the same thing happen? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

The work you do is important & it does make a difference (for anyone who needs to hear it)
I know you guys have a lot of frustrations to deal with in terms of your work, patient groups, dealing with various 'health systems', and I see posts talking about burn out, and so on. So I thought I'd share a few feel good, positive stories of successful outcomes thanks to the work that is done by Psychiatrists. Just for anyone who might need that small reminder of the value of your chosen field. No names, obviously, but these are all people I have known personally through various peer... Southern California Anesthesiology: Private Practice model vs W2 model. How to compare?
I am feeling burned out, I need some perspective. 1) For the private practices people. Is being 1st call once a week, and 2 weekend call a month normal? (Post call day still work at least a half day, or sometimes hooked till 12pm) 2) How do you compare a private practice gig (1099) to a hospital gig (w2) that offers benefits? Backstory: I've been doing private practice for few years now in Southern California. I live in a high cost of living area and my current group services a few small... Burn Out
I believe I have finally burned out. However, surprisingly it came during the chief residency when I have some sort of real power and autonomy. Regardless, I am looking for some remedies from colleagues who went through or have been going through this. The reason I wanted to discuss this in psychiatry forum is because of significant denial my colleagues from other departments exhibit. In addition to that, I believe psychiatrists are more insightful. This can also serve as a thread for some... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is there a point in doing 2 year otology fellowship vs 1 year non-accredited if planning on private practice?
Honestly I’m pretty burned out from academics. I love ENT but I just want to take care off patients and have a secure job so I can take care of my family. so I’m pretty sure I’m going to go into private practice trying to decide between Rhinology and otology, but I’m trying to figure out if I’m doing private practice is there any reason to do the 2 year route rather than just get the experience I need and do the 1 year route? Also how is the job market in rhino? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Week off?
So I test on the 25th and I am horribly burnt out. I have taken 4 AAMC exams so far and can potentially take one more. Should I take the week off or should I push through? My scores have been pretty good, I'm just scared they'll drop if I take a break. Any advice? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
