Does this kind of job exist?
Does this job exist -working mostly with patients who have schizophrenia, schizoaffective, bipolar 1, and/or OCD. May sound selfish/awful, but these are disorders I'm interested in and everything else I find exhausting -working with patients in a secure living environment - seeing about 5-10 patients per day and working about 3 days per week Money not very important, I would work for as little as 90,000$ per year. I don't care much about money. I feel so burned out in residency. I'm tired... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Need help deciding between peds or adult neuro
Hello everyone, Super low step one (205), all Ps and one HP in clinicals, originally wanted to do obgyn or anesthesia. Did not love my peds rotation, but know that I will match. My school does not have a neuro rotation so I have very little exposure to the field. Would love to hear from some people who chose or didn't choose neuro Peds Pros: Easy to match, I like kids enough, the general peds clinic life does not seem stressful, every pediatrician seems to love their job and isn't burnt... Back to number 1 in burn out.
The new burnout survey by medscape just came out. EM went from 43% to 60% reported burnout. Medscape: Medscape Access We are back to no. 1 and by quite a margin. So are you burned out? Do you have an exit strategy or will you continue EM until you're 60+? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

AA to anesthesiologist
So a little bit of a background. I was a premed who had second thoughts about applying to medical school in my senior year in college. For many reasons (kinda burnt out premed student). I wasn’t sure if I was ready for the commitment. Fast forward 3 years I realized I had to get my life together so I began to study for the MCAT. During that time I researched what paths I could take and had the MCAT as a back up in case I wanted to attend medical school. I came across Anesthesiologist... Anesthesiology vs Emergency Medicine
3rd-year med student here stuck in the middle. Should I go for anesthesia, do the 4-year residency, and have a somewhat stable, well-paying, and happy albeit possibly repetitive and slow job (relatively speaking)? Or should I go into emergency, do the 3-year residency, see all the crazy, ****ed-up **** that society has to offer (which draws me in for some reason) and feel like a doctor but also burn out by the time I'm 40 and call it quits? Also, EM makes more $$$ per hour, and rural... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Icu situations and burn out
Let’s talk about some common situations that i’ve encountered working in the icu that contribute to burn out: -pt is s/p Egd for gi bleed, remains inubated, pumped with 150 mcg of neo by anesthesia attending, signs out to no one and then pt dumped in the icu, bp promptly drops to 70-80s 5 mins after arrival to icu, anesthesia gone since its friday after 4 pm, pt stabilized icu -pt came to ER, intubated, hypotensive after being put on sedation, pt is ignored for an hour, no workup done, no... Burnt out and lonely
6 months into intern year at a 3 year EM program and I am filled with anxiety and stress before every shift with absolutely no motivation to continue. I feel like I haven't learned anything since July and I almost can't see myself ever being a successful attending. I want things to get better, but I just don't know what to do. I want to continue, but I just feel so depressed, unwanted, and isolated from my program. I think part of this feeling is because I'm at a program that wasn't the best... MICU rotation necessary?
Wondering what the consensus is about rotating through the MICU as a 4th year prior to starting an IM residency. I have the opportunity to do a subI in the MICU in March, but do not want to burn myself out with it. The alternative would be rotating through the wards a second time. Would MICU be worth it? How have you guys felt since this whole pandemic began?
So out of curiosity how hectic and difficult was med school for you during this pandemic? Whether you're in the first 2 or later 2 of your years of med schools. Do you guy's mind telling me what it was like for you? I am currently a premed student and was wondering what med school is like, with every crazy thing going on. I mean burn out in the medical community was already pretty bad prior to the pandemic, but now it seems like it's just a mess. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is this job worth it?
Pretty burnt out with current position, the liability seems high and I just wanted some outside opinions from other psychiatrists if I should suck it up or cut my losses and get out... Compensation: straight salary, 300k. no minimums for productivity or productivity bonuses. Supervision: I have four midlevels under me and theyre talking about putting a fifth...some of them are ok, others are horrendous... I had an issue with one recently where they werent checking the controlled substances... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Advice on my medical assistant job
Hi all! I’m hoping to get some advice on my situation. I am going to grad school full time and I recently started a full-time medical assistant job for an urgent care clinic. From what I’ve looked up and asking my coworkers, it doesn’t seem like they hire part time MAs and I am concerned if I keep this up, I may be burned out from going to school full time and working full time. I am working at. A new location they opened. So after a couple of months, once they’ve had enough people, should... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
