help me decide: PCP vs heme/onc
Hi everybody, I am a current PGY2 and am struggling between solid oncology vs primary care. Inpatient medicine burns me out due to heavy page burden and having to direct my attention to many different things at once. I feel more relaxed when I can devote myself to one thing at a time. Thus, hospitalist work is out of the question for me. I need help figuring out what is the best fit for me. I want a job where I can feel fulfilled and not burnt out. I don't care about salary/ prestige. I... help me decide: PCP vs heme/onc (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MSW or PsyD?
First post here. I intend to apply to either an MSW or PsyD program in the fall. My personal therapist is an LCSW and she has cautioned me away from seeking a MSW in favor of the PsyD for the following reasons: 1. Over-saturation of MSW/LCSW's (especially in CA) 2. Diminished rigor of clinical training in MSW 3. Lesser pay and job satisfaction (burn-out inability to attain certain positions etc) I was shocked when she shared this with me, however I am partial to the PsyD because I feel... MSW or PsyD? Functional neurology is going to single handedly burn me out.
Why isn't this discussed more? Why isn't there an entire AAN journal dedicated to this? Many days I see more functional patients/consults than "normal" patients. I'm becoming more and more cynical, I almost assume each patient is functional before meeting them. These patients are ticking time bombs for the clinician. It's drilled into us about appropriate use of testing/imaging but where do you even begin with their ridiculous amount of symptoms? Of course the correct answer is to order as... Value of NRP, ABLS?
Hi Y'all, New attending here. Does anyone find any value, either perceived by employers or in their actual clinical practice, from some of the more obscure acute care courses like the neonatal resucitation program (NRP) or advanced burn life support (ABLS)? I work a lot of remote, single coverage sites and so NRP sounds like it could be useful for the rare neonate or precipitous delivery. Are there any courses you might recommend to continue to grow one's clinical proficiencies... Value of NRP, ABLS? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Transition Out of IM Subspecialty as an Attending?
Hello, I am currently an internal medicine subspecialist and have been an attending for 3.5 years. I am quite unfulfilled at my job, physically/mentally/emotionally worn out. I have been trying to pay close attention to what is making me feel this way because hard work is not something I have trouble with and have come to really identify it truly is patient interactions/expectations. If I'm honest with myself, in hindsight, I've been burned out since right after intern year and have not... Transition Out of IM Subspecialty as an Attending? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Post residency options working less clinical?
PGY1 EM Resident here. I’m more than 6 months in but still have a little over 2 years to go. As much as I loved EM as a medical student, I’ve learned there’s so much I don’t like about it either. Perhaps I’m burnt out but the switch to days/nights has definitely taken a toll on my mental/physical health. I’ve had thoughts about switching specialties or quitting but having nearly 400k in a student loans is preventing me from doing so and at the end of the day there was a reason I chose EM in... Another year of the same prelim surgery situation....
Hello, I am posting this on behalf of my boyfriend since he does not have an account- he is currently a burn surgery fellow that has recently completed 3 prelim General Surgery residency years. He matched into a prelim-year 1 spot straight out of med-school, did well, but the organization pretty much never keeps prelims and he knew that, but had his dream & took the risk. From there, he landed another prelim-year 1 general surgery spot across the country. Again, he did well, but the program... Another year of the same prelim surgery situation.... Enlisted Medical Chalk Talks
What are some short 10-15 minute lessons y'all do for your enlisted medical (Corpsmen/Medics)? I'm looking for things that they'll find either interesting, useful in their job, or both. This is separate from skills training. Stuff like acute pain control, back pain red flags and what they mean, the approach to a red eye, upper respiratory/sinus complaints, "it burns when I pee," etc. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
