Business case for academic PM & R
I have questions for Academic folks here. I do not have business degrees and I do not have MBA degrees. But I just don't get it. HMOs look at the number of panels or patients loads and membership growth and they open and hire people based on the needs or just do quiet hiring and burn people out. However, whenever I look at job postings from academic centers i am shocked. Especially pediatric PM&R and even sports and brain injury and spinal cords!! some of those attendings see patients... GI hospitalist
Does anyone have experience to share working as a GI hospitalist? Just doing GI consults for a medium sized hospital and inpatient procedures (general GI), 7 days on 7 off with a PA. Is this something where one would get burned out after a year or two? Average salary experience for this type of job? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Loyola (Stritch) vs Creighton (Phoenix)
Blessed to be accepted into multiple medical schools. Barring any other acceptances or waitlist movement, I have narrowed my choices down to these two schools. Both are similar COA, grading (Loyola P/F vs Creighton H/P/F and clinical), strong hospital rotation sites (Level 1 trauma center, Burn center, Children's, VA, etc), mission, rankings, and matches. Having a hard time seeing which one is best for me, I am happy to attend either one but I want to make the best decision for me... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Can You Use the Same Personal Statement for Different Schools?
One of the questions we are asked most often by college and graduate school applicants is this: “I’m applying to six different schools, and each one requires two to seven essays/personal statements. That’s so much writing! Can I reuse the same essay for different schools? How can I keep up the quality and not burn out while writing so many personal statements?” We understand. We even sympathize. Best of all, we have practical solutions for determining whether you can reuse some of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Public notice: stop taking PE jobs
What do all PE practices have in common? They all need employee producers before they can churn and burn the practice to next buyer for that sweet 10x EBITDA multiplier. Ophthalmology is a small field w/ greater than 50% of workforce over 55, and if all young ophthalmologists collectively stuck together and said no to PE jobs, it would be game over. This is already happening to some degree. If young ophthalmologists banded together about tail insurance clauses and asked “partnership... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Where my community mental health center psychiatrists at?
I'm putting out a call for other early career psychiatrists who have the joy and horror of working in a state-run community mental health center. It has been lonely as a freshly minted attending joining the ranks of psychiatrists whose average age is 70. Our oldest practicing psychiatrist is in his 90s. This is probably nothing new to the old-timers, and it probably could be worse. But I feel the burn because this is what passes as mental health care for people who are already told... Evans osteotomy fixation?
How does everybody fixate their Evans? In training most of the people we just did a k-wire and then pull it out a few weeks later. I've done those mostly since I got out but finally got burned with dorsal displacement of the distal calcaneus. It's still fused. Then I have started doing mostly plates. Not sure how I feel about Staples. The plates I have done haven't had anybody with irritated peroneals and I know that was the big dogma about why not to use them. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pass/fail my classes senior spring?
Okay so I’m currently a second semester college senior and have already been lucky enough to hold a few acceptances but at the same time am incredibly burnt out… My college allows us to optionally take whatever classes we want pass/fail, and I was wondering if anyone knows whether I would get my acceptances/scholarships rescinded for taking ALL my classes pass/fail this semester. The senioritis is hitting real hard 😬. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Incredibly burnt out 2nd year student
Hi y'all, I'm a 2nd year 2nd semester student that's starting to struggle with imposter syndrome and burn out. I had a mentally taxing last semester due to the social circumstances of the school itself, and am struggling to rekindle the motivation I had at the beginning of the semester. Most days I feel like I am not capable of the program and my brain itself is starting to experience difficulty memorizing things which has never happened before. My friends are also experiencing some form of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

When is it too late?
It has been 8 years since I have been to this forum. I applied in 2015 but I withdrew. I was burned out and life was happening and I thought I would be ok not trying to be a doctor anymore. I was 43yo then. I am 51yo now. I have worked in healthcare my entire life and I’m still in healthcare. I was talking to a couple of doctors recently and they asked me why I didn’t keep going or why I dont just try again now and I said because I think its too late. And both of them said, “I had... What to use after a long break
I took the MCAT in 2015. I was burned out after finishing my degree and didn’t study for it, just took it. I scored 498. I am thinking about trying again after 8 years. It has been 8-10 years since I took the science classes and I’m not sure I remember any of it. What do you recommend as far as study materials if I were to take another go at it? Thanks. WAMC Reapplicant 3.81 sGPA/508 MCAT
Hello all! I applied to 28 schools with secondaries being sent back from July-September (which I regret). Moving forward I plan to prewrite my secondaries to avoid getting burnt out like I did this past cycle. I was hoping for a review of my app to get some advice on what else needs to be addressed. Thank you! cGPA: 3.92 and sGPA: 3.81 MCAT score: 508 (127/127/127/127) State of residence: FL X Undergraduate institution: state school Clinical experience: 190 hrs...
