How was EM 10 years ago compared to now?
I'm trying to get a decent idea of what the last decade has been like for specialties I'm interested in and what implications that means the next decade will be like. I also posted a similar question on radiology. basically, has your work flow gone up for the same salary? Do you think new docs tend to get burnt out more than 10 years ago? How has CMG's if you worked for one in 10 years; or multiple CMG's change their salary/pay structure? Do you dislike or don't mind it etc. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why does IV potassium burn?
I've been asked this question on rotation and I've run some pubmed searches and haven't been able to find anything! It's driving me crazy. Is it tonicity? Does anyone know the answer or at least know where to direct me to find it? Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

It's rough out there? Or is it me?
Situation: I'm in my early 30's, youngish family med doc with a few years experience as an attending. I got rejected for two positions very close to a major metro area on the west coast. Currently, I work in a very large metro area which is even more competitive than the area I applied for but at a less desirable, for most, job setting. I strongly want to move for family reasons and difficult work conditions. . I'm burnt out. My current job has been financially rewarding due... It's rough out there? Or is it me? Should I retake my MCAT? California ORM.
I'm entering my junior year soon. If I maintain the same grades I've had for the past two semesters, then I will have around a 3.7 cGPA/3.7 sGPA by the time I apply in May 2021. I am a co-author on one peer-reviewed publication so far, and have about 70 hours of non-clinical volunteering so far (this has not stopped, so I will have probably 100-150 hours by the time I apply). I am about to start scribing and anticipate ~200 hours by the time I apply. My application is so far heavily focused... Should I retake my MCAT? California ORM. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Adversity/Challenge, Criticism, and Diversity essays
Struggling to decide which topics to write about for common secondary topics. I have a few ideas but I'm doubting each one. For challenge/adversity: 1. In high school, my house partially burned down. In the essay, I talk about the struggles my family faced and how the experience made me more resilient and empathetic. I'm worried that this example is from too long ago to leave an impact. 2. Early in college, my family faced financial struggles after someone became seriously ill. I... Adversity/Challenge, Criticism, and Diversity essays (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Just bombed AAMC FL 2
I got a 503. Last week I got a 510 on FL 1 and two weeks ago my total % for the prep sample test was 80%. At this point I have taken 9 practice exams and I don’t know what the hell is wrong with me. All sections went down except for C/P. I have done all of the AAMC material (except for FL’s 3 and 4) and I’m going through it again. I don’t know what else to do. I feel like I did worse probably because I don’t have anymore new material or maybe I’m just burned out. Any advice? I’m definitely... Just bombed AAMC FL 2 (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Any PGY-2's or 3's thinking of jumping ship?
Any other 2nd or 3rd year residents beginning to think that EM is not right for them? If so, what are your turn off's for EM (so far or that have arisen)? What fields are you thinking of jumping too? Personally, I just feel burnt out at the end of this (PGY1) year. Between ungrateful patients to some crazy attendings who also seem pretty jaded. The thought of internal medicine or family medicine has crossed my mind on numerous occasions. Am I the only here that feels like way? Serious... Any PGY-2's or 3's thinking of jumping ship? Fellowship Advice
I've been very interested in PCCM since my first rotation in the ICU. I was also interested in cardiology. Due to personal reasons and some not so great advice I received early in my residency I ultimately chose to pursue cardiology (advice being the job market for CC isn't the greatest and there is a high burn out rate while cardiology offered more job stability and security especially if I wanted to move around. I would also be more likely to match cardiology because of there were more... Fellowship Advice (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Advice for Burned Out in current role?
I had posted about switching out of my current career role (outpatient subspecialist) a few weeks ago and the main advice I had gotten was to try reducing my hours. Whether I chose it or not, I have had reduced hours/patients during this pandemic time and have been doing telemed from home. I am pretty certain now that I cannot maintain my current career. My practice is awesome and I know how lucky I am to have the job I do, especially at this time. Yet, I'm shocked by how frustrated I get... Advice for Burned Out in current role? Feeling burned out
Pretty much what the title says. Im a PGY-2 at the end of year 2 of my residency. Pretty much, I feel underappreciated or undervalued for what I do. I've started several research projects but I have no motivation to finish any of them. And I dont have any family around. I feel picked on and belittled all the time in the residency. I dont know how much more of this I can take. My only motivation to go to work right now is to just survive. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
