Am I disillusioned to what ER really is?
Current 3rd year medical student. I am in between EM and IM. I really want to like EM. I like the shift work, and I really like the fact that you have no idea what could come through those doors and you have to think on your feet. You get to do some procedures as well. I’ve been spending extra days in the ER and I’m not sure if this is what ER actually is and I’m just a naive student; or the people I’m working with are just burnt out and don’t care. Granted it’s a small Lvl 3 ER in the... Am I disillusioned to what ER really is? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Possible options, low gpa, stay premed or switch?
Hey I just finished my sophomore year fall semester, and I did very bad, I got about a 3.2 gpa. My overall gpa is about 3.45 and science gpa is about 3.4. I worked extremely hard this last semester and I was burnt out during finals and choked. So, I have been considering whether i should i even stay premed becasue I won't get into med schools(state: michigan) as i still have biochem and orgo 2 remaining so my gpa will probably will not be a 4.0( Spring 2020: Orgo 2, Physics 2, Calc 2(taking... AAEM oral board review course. Does it suck, or is it worth it?
Trying throw some money AAEM's way, wouldn't mind using my CME on their oral board review course. However, if it's a complete waste of time, would rather do something else anyone ever do it? Even if it's marginally worth it I've got 7k CME to burn through and I can only buy so many gift cards (thanks, boardvitals!) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Taking some time off between finishing training and working?
Hi, I'm finishing up my fellowship in June and I'm in an unfortunate situation where it looks like my father is getting burned out taking care of my mom. It looks like we may need consider putting her in an assisted living facility but I want to still try and be there for her if I can after my training. My question is if I take 6 months to a year of not working (or very minimal part time work), will this affect me from a licensing perspective? I'm the eldest child and unfortunately my... Politics of potentially canceling away rotation
Hi All, I'm applying into medicine and have an away rotation scheduled at a program I thought was my dream program in a few weeks. Since being on the interview trail I've heard this program is malignant and now I'm not as interested in going there. I've been given an interview at the program already. I would really like to cancel the away but dont want to burn a bridge. Is this excusable in any way? Or am I theoretically locked into the rotation given the politics of it all? Thanks... Academically Dismissed. Can I make the biggest comeback of my life? Eviscerate me if you must.
I went to community college and finished with a 3.5 total (B's and C's in bio and ochem) for about 70 semester units. Proved a lot of people wrong and pulled off some impressive extracurriculars and went to a big name school (quarter system) and nailed my first quarter with straight A's--I was driven as hell. And then after that I hit depression like a wall, absolute crash and burn. I used to think depression was something lazy people talked about until it happened to me, I was a pretty... Hours of studying and limit for burnout?
Current 1st year. How many hours a day / week do you all study? And what do you all think is your limit after which you feel burnt out? I'm trying to find the right balance for this. Currently, I'll go hard for one exam but then get burnout and not care much about the exam later that week. Our curriculum has around 2 exams a week. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

If doctors are so miserable & burnt out, why do so many of their kids still want to go to medical school?
I'm currently in medical school right now, and I would guesstimate that literally about half of my class has a parent whose a doctor. Of that percentage, I would say about 10% of them have two parents that are doctors. So, just curious...and I'd love to hear from people who have parents that are doctors..but what REALLY made you go into medicine despite knowing the long, hard road that lies ahead of you? You were never scared away from being a doctor, after seeing all the hours mom/dad... If doctors are so miserable & burnt out, why do so many of their kids still want to go to medical school? M3 and positively burned out
Did anyone else feel burned to a crisp as a M3? They say it is uphill from here but when is that? m4? residency? junior attending? Being at the utter whim of preceptors...who can be as abusive or not as they want. School standards making it increasingly difficult to Honor. Crazy hours. And I mean, life still happens-I got into a bad car accident a few days ago (other driver ticketed)...and, med school leaves you no time to deal with it. Still need to do all the scutwork despite paying $$$ to... M3 and positively burned out (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Fresh Start to the MCAT from Gap Years - Help!
Hi all, I'd like to thank you in advance for any suggestions in my dire hour of need of finding study materials/prepping my schedule. I took two gap years to "find myself". I was one of those harsh straight-edge undergrads that you couldn't talk to me if you weren't talking about studying/lab work/volunteering and I'd judge you for not having a 4.0. It was unhealthy and was so focused that I burnt myself out and convinced myself not to do medicine. Had a blast taking a gap break traveling... Fresh Start to the MCAT from Gap Years - Help! Chances of getting into opto school?
Hi my name is Karen, and I just joined this forum since it has been helpful for me to see my future options. I have recently hit a low point and am not sure if I should still try to make it into optometry school. I currently have a 3.4ish cumulative GPA and a 3.1ish science GPA. I'm currently taking Ochem 1 and may possibly get a C which would probably lower my GPA a lot unless I barely make a B. Basically I'm feeling burnt out since I guess I just suck at science courses. This is my 2nd... Chances of getting into opto school? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Canadian Applicant - WAMC?? Please help!
cGPA: 3.85 , sGPA: 3.97 , MCAT1: 500 (3 years ago), MCAT2: 509 , Lots of unique ECs, Currently finishing up MSc I know that my MCAT scores are not the best. I'm a little afraid that it will hold me back. I'm planning to apply to these schools: Wayne State NYMC Howard MSU Central Michigan George Washington Penn State Tulane Hawaii (Burns) I also want to throw in UCLA, because in 2017 they accepted someone with a 508 MCAT (but I'm not sure if I should). I would say that my ECs are above... Canadian Applicant - WAMC?? Please help! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Extra classes for prep
I'd be starting pod school in next fall assuming one of my interviews goes well enough this cycle (I have two lined up), giving me a decent amount of time to "burn". I figured I'd start looking for part time work but was also considering taking extra courses at either the local university or community college. My MCAT was not the best, 494, and I don't really feel completely comfortable in some of the subjects even though my actual GPA is decent (3.4 overall 3.3 science). Would it be worth...
