Recruiter experiences
I'm retina, set to graduate in the near future. I'm looking for a true partnership track position (aren't we all), and I'm basically willing to go anywhere for the right fit (normal partner/s, high volume but ethical). My main fear is being misled, churned/burned in some way, and wasting two years of my life. What are people's experiences with recruiters? Taking a step back, the practice is the recruiter's customer, and the job applicant is the product. There is also the perverse incentive... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I'm quitting residency - any legal/logistical issues I need to worry about?
Hi everyone - I'm an intern, and I'm going to be quitting residency as soon as possible. (It's for personal reasons that unfortunately aren't going to change, I've thought it through, I know I can't come back to medicine, I know it might burn bridges, and I'm lucky to have a very safe and stable back-up option to earn a living - just trying to get ahead of the comments telling me to tough it out and finish the year, that's unfortunately not an option.) Are there any legal issues I need to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Outpatient PA supervisor question
I wasn’t sure how to title this.. There is a PA I work with who has an outpatient suboxone and testosterone clinic basically, he started doing ozempic for weight loss recently as well. He has a retired ER doc that started the practice and now just has his name on it for legal purposes. His current doc is retiring from everything and I was approached to take his place. I’m interested because I’m getting burned out and would like to do some outpatient medicine. I’ve been considering ketamine... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Mistakes
Senior resident here, trying to mentally prepare myself for practice next year. How do you guys mentally deal with mistakes or judgment calls you may have made with respect to radiation contouring and planning where you ended up getting burned? Such as not boosting a gross node, or not covering a certain elective region where there eventually was a failure. Or even if there was no adverse outcome, looking back onto a case and realizing you should have contoured this area differently or... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

VA CLC psychologist burned out & debating becoming a "Zoom Doc" psychologist
I'm getting very burned out on CLC work. Anyone ever made a transition from a fully face-to-face position at the VA to one of those 100% remote positions? Advice, perspectives, anything y'all would like to share? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Has anyone here gone non-clinical?
So I’ve been feeling a little burned out in general pediatrics. We see 27-30 patients a day with forms, patient calls, and labs to deal with in between, work two weekends a month, take evening phone call one a week and those 9-11 hours at work feel like a sprint, I barely get 10-15 minutes to eat my lunch. Several docs have left my practice due to the workload. I interviewed at other gen peds jobs in my area but they don’t seem much better and I don’t want to be a hospitalist. I’ve... Mitigating Burnout
Hey all - I'm strongly considering Pulm/CC. I really enjoy the medicine of it, but I know I may also just be bright-eyed right now and maybe just love the IBCC podcast too much bahaha. Reading and hearing about crit care from more seasoned folks usually results in them describing how tired and burned out they are. What do you consider the factors to this burnout, how do you/would you mitigate them? When looking for jobs what do you look for to reduce these factors? I'm personally interested... What job do I go with?
Throwaway account. Currently working in a hospital employed job for about 3 years. I really don't like it and I am increasingly burnt out. I have an opportunity to join an SDG. Hoping for some guidance as to what the right move is. Below is a quick overview of the salient points of each gig: Current job: -Hospital employed, W2 -No nights (currently - definitely not a guarantee moving forward if they lose nocturnists which they very well may as they are mostly all burnt out) -No control... Cancelling an externship?
I'm a fourth-year student with an externship at another university scheduled in about a month - the externship is 4 weeks of emergency/critical care (2 rotation blocks). I scheduled this externship well before 4th year began. Now that I've experienced more of fourth year, I'm regretting scheduling an entire month of ER, as I don't want to burn out, have realized that 4 weeks of ER is not necessary for my goals, and would like to save money on accommodations. Would it be poor form/taboo to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Please tell me there are schools with extremely supportive fieldwork clinical instructors.
I have been reading horror stories about fieldwork placements with terrifying, unsupportive FW clinical instructors who fail students. Students cry every day, they burn out, or get panic attacks. I am looking to narrow down schools that are very very good with programs and placements. Thank you very much! (Source: Student Doctor Network)
