Is outpatient really that bad?
I moved to my dream mountain state! I'm currently a nocturnist working 10 nights a month in the form of 7 on 14 off. I swore off doing days as a hospitalist (Social issues, daily rounding, family meetings, needy patients, being asked to do admissions while already having a full team...) as I officially burned out. Nights are sweet and I'm a night owl but they're nights after all and taking a toll on my social life cuz I'm basically off grid for those 7 nights. The 14 days off are... Ultrasound certificate
Hey everyone! I'm an ER vet that is getting burnt out pretty quickly. I was curious if anyone had suggestions for abdominal ultrasound certifications? I'm not talking 1-2 days of CE, but an actual program to become very efficient. I have no interest in becoming boarded in radiology, I just want to become better trained with ultrasounds for a more thorough diagnostic work-up. Dream job would be doing abdominal ultrasounds in a quiet room all day and giving the report to the DVM and then... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

USUKS has burned it to the ground
Worked a shift at a USUKS shop. Used to be a GREAT place, stable docs with PAs who have been there a long time. Then "merged" with USUKS. Benefits cut, but bonuses promised. Buuuuuut...looks like nobody qualifies for bonuses so group of us walks. That leaves shop short handed PAs for a month so most days only one PA not two. USUKS throws us a benny and says will increase our pay (back to what the bonus used to be)!!!!....but....since we have been making due with only one PA shift... Doctor-Patient Deal Breakers
What are your dealbreakers? We put up with a lot of nonsense from our patients...because podiatry...but how far is too far? This isn't about ego or having a superiority complex for me. Rather, it's about asserting our boundaries so we don't burn out on things we don't need to be doing so we can be at 100% for the things we DO need to be doing. Let's get through the obvious ones: drug seeking, violent threats, harassing doctors/staff/other patients, medical legal. 1. Early on in practice, I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Am I just burnt out or am I just not meant for the medical field? ANY ADVICE APPRECIATED
I have always dreamt of becoming a doctor. In the Philippines, most kids rely on their parents for everything until they get their degree and marry off. Work is frowned upon (unless you are within poverty line), scholarships are scarce, and parents pay for school so no one really does loans/ get into student debt. Everyone is expected to go to college straight after HS. It’s common to take 18-26 credits a semester. So when I was in my last year of premed in the Philippines, while my... Peds HPM
Been awhile since I’ve been on SDN haha. I’m a practicing peds hospitalist looking to move into palliative care. I considered it (and other fellowships) during residency but was just so burnt out that I decided not to do fellowship. Various things have aligned for me/my career in the past year making it feel like the right time to actually go back and make the switch. I’ve searched through SDN and haven’t really seen a lot about Peds HPM though. I have a mentor, hopefully a compelling... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

New Job Best Way To Resign Prevent Bridge Burn
If someone is keen on the company, but it is not a good fit, and or non-work related issues, what is the best way to resign so people aren't angry. Managers have the ability to mark ineligable for rehire and it would be best to avoid that. At what intervals of employment would advice change--1 mo, 2 mo, 3mo., etc.? What reasons are kosher? Only applicable advice. Thank you and have a great day! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Applied this past cycle to 15 schools, with 5 II and 3 WL. I wanted to apply to more last cycle, but got really burnt out lol. Thanks for any advice, moral support, comments, etc! Surviving and thriving as workhorse 🐴
m4 here. I fell way down my rank list on match day. Was a weak applicant with red flags... applied broadly to FM, IM, and psych. The program I matched at is known as a 'workhorse program' in a big city. Most of the residents are foreign grads, some Caribbean grads too. q4 24 hour in-house call, high patient volumes, weak teaching, little supervision. I spoke to some of the senior residents and they seem pretty burnt out and unsatisfied. Theyre literally just there to perform labor, not to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Old Textbooks
I was recently cleaning my old stuff out of my parent's house in preparation for an upcoming move and found the remainder of my old grad school texts. I took the useful ones years ago for my home office. However, what did you guys do with the ones that were of minimal use? Garbage? Stick them on a shelf? Burn them in effigy of every old prof you disliked? Kindling for the fireplace? Trying to decode what to do (sidenote:I have apparently read too many books in my life, I need a bigger house...
