My first real l-methylfolate case
Deplin is often times given by psychiatrists to those who are depressed. I think, and still think, it's just them throwing expensive folic acid. (Well something close to folic acid). But today for the first time ever I had my first real case where L-methylfolate really might have saved the day. Pt had treatment resistant depression since her childhood and she's been on over 10 antidepressants with no benefit. An mTHFR gene test showed she had two mutations on that gene with none of them... Current status, and a few questions. How am I doing? I NEED y'alls help!
I am currently starting my second Summer here at my university in Texas getting ready to enter my junior year as a Pre-Dent. With as much excitement I am feeling towards my future, I have concerns and worries as well. With all the concern, I have multiple questions I would like to ask everyone just to kind of clear my mind, as well as clear my check list. Will dental schools look at a course I took in HS?
I'm kind of panicking right now because I read in another thread that dental schools count all the courses ever taken at a CC. In my sophomore year of high school I took a physics course at my CC simply because I wanted to improve my physics knowledge and what not. I took it with the mindset that I was just there to learn and in the end I got a C in that class. And now I find out that dental schools will actually count that C towards my GPA, which happened years ago. Can anyone clarify it... Will dental schools look at a course I took in HS? Schools that value reinvention?
So I didnt have the most successful cycle this past year and I am reapplying this cycle (did a lot over my gap year to make up for my deficiencies). My stats are alright but nothing stellar (505-->511 MCAT, 3.61 cGPA/3.45sGPA). I have a reinvention story that I feel is pretty clear when you look at my academics/activities before and after. Late MCAT and Rushed Schedule...Extra Gap Year??
Hi! I was super indecisive throughout a decent bit of undergrad (currently a rising senior) about pre-med vs pre-nursing but finally sat down with an advisor, talked through, and solidly set on the premed path. However, I have a fair bit of catching up to do, and, based on my current schedule, to apply next cycle with just 1 gap year, I'd have to rush courses and apply without knowing MCAT scores which is not the best plan. DMU vs Western
These are both excellent DO schools, and I'm having a tough time picking one. I know there are more pros/cons to each school, but I've watered it down to the main issues I'm internally debating. DMU Pros: -close to family, friends, SO; also originally from Des Moines -more affordable living -Des Moines is a nicer surrounding community -more depth in the curriculum -shorter class time than Western? Incoming PGY 1, EM, swap
I’m looking for an EM to EM swap from a high quality EM program in a desirable location due to recently changing personal reasons. Only interested in EM, nothing else. I’m an incoming PGY-1 so this may not happen until beginning of PGY-2 (July 2019). Message me directly for more details only if you are an incoming EM PGY-1. From some prior searching here, I recognize swaps are unlikely to work because PDs may not agree on the other candidate but figured I’d throw it out there. Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Several students at my school, myself included, have exceptional circumstances (families, medical bills, emergencies) and Cost of Attendance doesn't factor that in. Being details oriented
I have never been a very detail oriented person. I was never taught to be meticulous and careful as a child, and while I was nagged a lot to clean up after myself and keep tidy, it was never strict and I tend to be a bit sloppy sometimes. This is compounded by the fact that I behave a lot on impulse and generally do not premeditate every action. The reason I bring this up is, physicians and surgeons are supposed to be detailed, meticulous, thought out, planned, calculated, and calm under... Hey! I'm new around here, but I've been reading posts and threads for a while.
