Are we being robbed as hospitalists?
By working 7 days on ~ 84 hours 7 days off, 26 weeks on a year, no PTO, no sick days, no vacation, no holidays. Compared to outpatient working 36-40 hours a week, 3-4 days a week with 4-6 weeks vacation, holidays off. Outpatient gets way more time off while making more money. How did we get tricked as hospitalists into this schedule? How did we agree to no vacation time, no sick days, no holiday differential? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Feeling stuck during gap year, what should I be doing?
I'm in the middle of my gap year and I'm feeling stuck as to what I should be doing. I'm currently doing non-clinical volunteering at about 6 hours a week and working as a scribe 25 hours a week. I was initially planning on doing these at least until the app opened, but I feel like it wont be enough. My MCAT is good, but low for the median of my state schools (512, FL). And I didn't get much research done in college, I have one poster presentation at a convention, but no scientific research... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

DO thinking about surgery
Hi guys, I recently had my surgery rotation and absolutely loved it. On top of that, the attending also suggested pushing myself towards surgery rather than EM/IM I had planned. I'm wondering about my chances though. My research experience is mostly pre medical school with 2 years as RA and 2 years in undergrad. No pubs unfortunately... I haven't taken step 2 yet but what would be a good score floor to aim for? On top of that, I picked IM as my second elective, meaning I would not be able... 4th year scheduling (which electives?)
Hey all, we're starting to schedule our 4th year. Now, I know a lot of folks are going to say "do your requirements then find the most chill rotations," which I totally do plan to chill however was curious what electives would folks suggest for someone going into IM with interest in Crit Care? Personally thinking for my 4 week blocks the following Required: IM Sub-I EM Sub-I Elective: ICU (ofc, and planning to do as an away) Ultrasound & EKG (they're both half-blocks each)... How can I get honors on neuro shelf exam?
MS3 student currently doing neurology rotation right now. I would like to get honors grade on my neurology rotation which means apparently scoring at least approximately 75th percentile on shelf exam. What are some good resources for achieving this other than Uworld and anki? I have noticed that I have forgotten a lot of fundamental neuro knowledge from Step 1 such as dementia, movement disorders etc. Should I give First Aid step 1 neuro section a try? I currently have a great gig but need to move (new location/tired of the admin here). I have 5 years experience post res. My pay is stuck at 235. We get a yearly bonus which is anywhere from 15-35 a year (unrelated to incentive-thats grouped into my 235). I like my hours. Office is awesome. But i need to leave. Looking within my midwest market and in more desirable states its nuts. Theyre offering me 235-245 max to see 20 pt a day. I dont understand. When i started i was offered that... Supervisor Inpatient Interview VA
I recently got invited to a VA supervisory inpatient interview. It is far away, though they are offering a Teams video interview, they did mention they prefer an in person interview. I am a little skeptical on how serious they are, as I do not have much supervisor experience, I was on ABX, PT committees, did some projects and have clinical and staffing inpatient experience, and I was lead pharmacist once. Also, the app closed one month ago and they are only calling now. What are they... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
