Sub-I on IM getting only 1 patient at a time but being praised. Should I be worried?
To me actions speak louder than words, but I have a constant fear that I’m incompetent but no one is telling me. I have been on my sub-I for two weeks. I’ve made mistakes here and there (like paging PT instead of putting in an order, not wrong meds or anything like that), and I certainly slow down my senior because he has to sign all my orders and my notes. I’ve asked for feedback and my senior and attending praise me. But when I only have 1-2 patients at a time, while the interns take 6... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

When to hold 'em, when to fold 'em
We're pretty jaded about the career outlook for podiatry here, probably more than we should be. But every other resource at students' disposal paints an unrealistically rosy picture of the podiatry career outlook. In this thread, we raised the question, under what circumstances is there a rational basis for a student to drop out mid-way through school? TLDR: the answer is more than likely you shouldn't drop out. So I don't want any of our leaders in the way-too-many alphabet soup... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Rutgers Newark, MBS, Medical Scholars 2024
Hello everyone! (I didn't see a thread for the Rutgers MBS program yet, so I created this). I was just recently accepted into the Medical Scholars Track at Rutgers Newark and would greatly appreciate any tips/tricks/advice for how to excel in the program. I'm also looking for some information on housing in the area, so advice about that would be appreciated too! Thank you in advance (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC NONTRAD 3.75/521 12 yrs since undergrad
Hi SDN Community, I am humbly asking for some honest advice and insight. I am 34 years old. Despite five attempts (yes, I know) to get into medical school starting in 2015, I have not been successful. I graduated from UC Berkeley back in 2012. My last MCAT score from August 2020 was 521 (98th percentile), and I have a GPA of 3.75. I also have a couple of second author publications and have interviewed at Duke, Rochester, UC Davis, Buffalo, and Rosalind Franklin. I was unable to secure... 1 year attending job?
Hi I am a rads resident about to rank and match for fellowship. Spouse is an FM PGY 2. Rank list right now is all over the country, mostly in big metros/big academic centers. We will likely return to the area we are currently in after my fellowship year (its her hometown). We aren't interested in doing distance for a year. She isn't really interested in a fellowship year either. Would it be feasible for wife to have a 1 year attending job wherever I end up for fellowship? Or would... Mental Health Tech vs EMT
I am interested in mental health and psychiatry. I have over a year of experience as a research assistant in a mental health psychology lab, and over a year in a neuroscience lab to back that statement up. I would consider myself more well-informed about mental health and illnesses that most, so I believe I can make a compelling argument about my interest in psychiatry. It is probable that my personal statement will revolve around this interest in some fashion (although I recognize the value... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Which schools accept the most out of state residents?
I am trying to narrow down where I should apply. I live in Florida, but I would happily apply anywhere in the US. So far, I found that the University of N. Carolina accepts 18 non-resident students and the University of Georgia accepts 9. LOL! Anyone else know of schools with more non-resident spots? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Rush vs WSU
Hey all, I was very fortunate to receive two acceptances during the cycle and I’m struggling to figure out which one is the right choice. The students at both schools seemed really happy and close knit, which is something I’m looking for. I’m fairly interested in surgery as a specialty, but I’m open to wherever life takes me. I also have a medium-high waitlist spot at the UW and I was wondering if that should factor into this decision at all. Rush: Pros: - Chicago is a great city with... Is a research year necessary to get into a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship?
I am nearly done with my PGY-2 year and I'm very interested in CT surgery. We have the option of a research year, but I am wondering if that's absolutely necessary to do to get a position in a CT surgery fellowship. I do have projects that I am working on within my program, so I will have publications/presentations by the time I finish residency. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

LOR without letterhead
I'm reaching out for some advice on a letter of recommendation. One of the doctors I was hoping to request a letter from recently left the clinic where I worked with them (not on good terms) While they'd be willing to write a strong letter for me, they wouldn't be able to use the clinic's letterhead. I'm wondering if a letter without the letterhead would still hold weight in my application, or if I should look for another recommender. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
