Looking for thoughts on my school list
Hey, So I'm interested in getting my MD/PhD with a non-traditional PhD (comparative lit, history and philosophy of science, feminist studies, or a similar field - really a matter of what department the people I'm interested in working with happen to teach in). I am well aware of all the unique challenges that this presents in applying - having to seriously know what exactly you want to do, why you want to do it, how, etc. Given that, I wanted to present my applications and my current school... how realistic is The Resident?
So I grew up knowing art to be the mirror of society. Most things we portray in drama or art have some sort of stem in real life events. How common is it for attendings to blame their mistakes on poor residents, scapegoat them in front of patients, mock their abilities, humiliate them in front of colleagues, and for a person who's made multiple medical mistakes to somehow rise to a star-like state in the field of medicine? Oh, and would an actual attending threaten to deport you if you... how realistic is The Resident? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

checking ids when dispensing controlled substances
Hi, I am working at a retail pharmacy in Florida. According to Florida laws, under certain circumstances, we must ask for and make a copy of picture ids from patients before dispensing controlled substances (rule64b16- attached). My question is, what if their picture ids (driver licenses or state licenses) are expired? Are they still acceptable? I don't know if other states have this rule too, and if it actually comes from the DEA. Please help me clarify this matter. More to being a doctor than GPA
So I've realized something at the end of my second year of undergrad... I know having a good enough gpa of 3.7 is important. But I've also realized that those kids who step on others to get a 98 percent instead of 94, who only care about grades and not people, and who basically think of themselves as above society are not going to make the best doctors. I haven't been blessed with the smartest brain at my school (even though I am pretty intelligent) but I think it's comforting to know that... Obtaining a copy of a textbook I contributed to
A few years ago I made significant contributions to a specific chapter of a medical reference textbook. The textbook was released in the past 2 weeks and is for sale for nearly $300. Is there any way for me to contact the publisher to obtain a copy, since I made contributions to the book and am listed in the book's contributors section? Is undergrad rigor taken into account?
I've seen this discussed a few times but was just wondering what the general consensus was. I've heard that some dental schools don't really factor in the difficulty of your undergrad school when looking at your GPA. Is this true? For example, would a 3.60 at a top 10 private school be considered about as good as like a 3.70/3.80 at a school that may not be as prestigious? Obviously having a high GPA anywhere is relatively difficult but I was just curious about other's thoughts on this! (Source: Student Doctor Network)
