Did I pigeon hole myself in the Midwest?
Hello all! I just started as an M1 at Wayne State University in Michigan. I had other offers from the east coast such as Thomas Jefferson in Philly or even the military medical school (USUHS) in DC. I got a full ride at Wayne which drew me there but am now worried because I have an interest in pursuing dermatology outside of the Midwest on the east or west coast. Did I pigeon hole myself into only matching in the midwest due to regional bias? I was considering doing a research year between... Did I pigeon hole myself in the Midwest? Am I to Old to go to to Med School?
Hi -- so whenever I have any questions about medical or a pre-med program this site always pops up in Google search. Here's my story: I'm 34 years old and I've worked in digital marketing for about 10 years. Marketing was never something I wanted to do but it was something I fell into when I had to drop out of college in my early 20's (student loan companies wanted their money). Fast forward to my early 30's I decided that I hated working in Marketing (and in business in general) and that... Am I to Old to go to to Med School? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Private Practice after ACA repeal?
Hello, Any thoughts on whether the time is now right in 2017 to go into private practice, after the proposed repeal of Obamacare? I understand many physicians joined,or remained hospital employees due to burdensome ACA red tape. With that monstrosity gone, will there be a desire to go back into private practice? Thank you! Unfortunately I just found out that I failed Step 2 CK by a few points (201 with minimum 209). Application Question for Australian Schools (What are my chances, sort of)
Hi, Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find it on the forums. I'm interested in applying to DVM programs in Australia. I did well in undergrad in a biology degree, but I was more interested in research at the time, so I have basically no vet experience aside from some volunteer work in an animal shelter in high school and a wildlife rehab center a few years ago. Alternate Paths to Scientist-Physician
I know I want to be a doctor, and while I like and am considering the idea of also getting a Ph.D. to supplement my knowledge, I'm not thrilled with taking two gap years to buff up my research resume before applying to MSTPs as per the advice I keep hearing. An older doctor got his Ph.D. in the middle of residency, I think. Is that still a viable path someone could take (this happened over 20 years ago)? Would you have reported to child's protective services?
Interesting case last night in the OPD. I saw a mother who appeared well at first but was actually psychotic. She thought her husband implanted listening devices in her hear, she was hearing disparaging voices, non-command, and felt old friends and characters in her life was after her. These symptoms are context of long hx of opioid use, PTSD, and some genetic loading of psychosis. What makes this case a bit hairier is the fact she had a 7 year old with her, who she lives alone with. I... Would you have reported to child's protective services? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
