Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1651: Liver X Receptor Ligand GAC0001E5 Downregulates Antioxidant Capacity and ERBB2/HER2 Expression in HER2-Positive Breast Cancer Cells
In this study, HER2-positive breast cancer cells were treated with 1E5 to determine their potential inhibitory effects and mechanisms of action in HER2-positive breast cancers. Similar to previous observations in other cancer types, 1E5 treatments inhibited LXR activity, expression, and cancer cell proliferation. Expression of fatty acid synthesis genes, including fatty acid synthase (FASN), was downregulated following 1E5 treatment, and results from co-treatment experiments with an FASN inhibitor suggest that the same pathway is targeted by 1E5. Treatments with 1E5 disrupted glutaminolysis and resulted in increased oxidat...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1653: A Metastatic Cancer Expression Generator (MetGen): A Generative Contrastive Learning Framework for Metastatic Cancer Generation
i Huang Despite significant advances in tumor biology and clinical therapeutics, metastasis remains the primary cause of cancer-related deaths. While RNA-seq technology has been used extensively to study metastatic cancer characteristics, challenges persist in acquiring adequate transcriptomic data. To overcome this challenge, we propose MetGen, a generative contrastive learning tool based on a deep learning model. MetGen generates synthetic metastatic cancer expression profiles using primary cancer and normal tissue expression data. Our results demonstrate that MetGen generates comparable samples to actual metastatic ...

Artificial Intelligence in Digital Histopathology for predicting patient prognosis and treatment efficacy in breast cancer
Expert Rev Mol Diagn. 2024 Apr 24. doi: 10.1080/14737159.2024.2346545. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Histological images contain phenotypic information predictive of patient outcomes. Due to the heavy workload of pathologists, the time-consuming nature of quantitatively assessing histological features, and human eye limitations to recognize spatial patterns, manually extracting prognostic information in routine pathological workflows remains challenging. Digital pathology has facilitated the mining and quantification of these features utilizing whole-slide image (WSI) scanners and artificial intelligence (AI)...

DPP3 promotes breast cancer tumorigenesis by stabilizing FASN and promoting lipid synthesis
This study demonstrates that DPP3 plays a role in the reprogramming of fatty acid metabolism in tumors and is associated with poor prognosis in breast cancer patients. These findings will provide a new therapeutic target for the treatment of breast cancer.PMID:38655619 | DOI:10.3724/abbs.2024054 (Source: Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica)

Estrogen receptor beta expression and role in cancers
J Steroid Biochem Mol Biol. 2024 Apr 22:106526. doi: 10.1016/j.jsbmb.2024.106526. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEstrogen drives the growth of some cancers, such as breast cancer, via estrogen receptor alpha (ERβ). Estrogen also activates ERβ, but whether ERβ is expressed and has a role in different cancers is debated. The use of nonspecific antibodies has contributed to the confusion, and this review delves into ERβ's controversial role in cancer and focuses on tumor expression that can be supported by non-antibody-dependent assays. We discuss its expression at the transcript level and focus on its potential role in ly...

Identification of Key lncRNAs Associated with Immune Infiltration and Prognosis in Gastric Cancer
In this study, we systematically analyzed lncRNA and miRNA transcriptomic profiles of GC based on bioinformatics methods and experimental validation. An lncRNA-miRNA interaction network related to GC was constructed, and the nine crucial lncRNAs were identified. These 9 lncRNAs were found to be associated with the prognosis of GC patients by Cox proportional hazards regression analysis. Among them, the expression of lncRNA SNHG14 can affect the survival of GC patients as a potential prognostic marker. Moreover, it was shown that SNHG14 was involved in immune-related pathways and significantly correlated with immune cell in...

Bisphenol S enhances the cell proliferation ability of prostate cancer cells by regulating the expression of SDS
Toxicol In Vitro. 2024 Apr 22:105827. doi: 10.1016/j.tiv.2024.105827. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRecent times have witnessed an increase in both incidence and mortality rates of prostate cancer. While some individuals with localized or metastatic cancer may progress slowly with a lower mortality risk, those with intermediate or high-risk cancer often face a higher likelihood of death, despite treatment. Bisphenol A (BPA) has been linked to various cancers, including prostate and breast cancer, yet the relationship between bisphenol S (BPS) and human health remains underexplored. In our study, we employed ssGSEA analysis...

Profile of adverse drug reactions reported via the Continuum+ platform: Results from three-year regional follow-up
Therapie. 2024 Apr 10:S0040-5957(24)00042-8. doi: 10.1016/j.therap.2024.04.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn 2017, the Continuum+ platform was launched to provide a monitoring solution to home-based cancer care patients: AKO@dom monitoring. This platform also offers the follow-up of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) via direct notification to regional centers of pharmacovigilance (RCPVs). According to previous studies, the AKO@dom monitoring has successfully maintained treatment at the maximum effective dosage, managing ADRs and patient satisfaction. However, on the pharmacovigilance side, opinions are more divided. Due to...

The evolvement of breast cancer therapies: What we have done and where all these head off
Saudi Med J. 2024 Apr;45(4):331-340. doi: 10.15537/smj.2024.45.4.20230492.ABSTRACTAlthough, from a therapeutic standpoint, breast cancer (BC) is considerably well-characterized, it still leaves puzzling spots. The Her-2+/PR+/ER+ BC can benefit from the mainstays of anticancer therapy and immunotherapy and overall have a better prognosis. Triple-negative BC, due to the concomitant absence of Her-2/PR/ER receptors, is more challenging and necessitates different strategies. It has been learned that the mainstay anti-BC therapies were initially designed to demolish as many cancer cells as they possibly could. However, the numb...
