Efficacy and safety of immunosuppressive therapy combined with eltrombopag for severe aplastic anemia: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionEPAG added to IST enables patients to achieve earlier and faster hematologic responses with a higher rate of complete response. Although it had no effect on overall EFSR, it improved OSR and did not increase the incidence of clonal evolution and other adverse events. (Source: Systematic Reviews)

A retrospective study of ovarian tissue cryopreservation in female patients with hematological diseases for fertility preservation
ConclusionsOvarian tissue cryopreservation has a promising future in fertility protection in patients with hematological diseases. However, patients with hematological malignancies often have received gonadotoxic therapy before OTC, which may be accompanied by myelosuppression while patients with non-malignant hematological diseases often present with severe hemocytopenia. So perioperative complete blood count of patients should be paid attention to. There was no significant difference in the WBC count and hemoglobin concentration in patients with hematological diseases before and after OTC surgery, and the platelet count ...

Successful Treatment of Severe Aplastic Anemia with Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in the Setting of Active Mucormycosis
AbstractSevere aplastic anemia (SAA) is a life-threatening hematological disease characterized by the suppression of the bone marrow. Patients with SAA are predisposed to recurrent bacterial infections and invasive fungal infections (IFI) due to profound and persistent neutropenia. Mucorales are the second most common cause of IFI encountered in SAA. Here we present a pediatric case of SAA with active mucormycosis infection of the paranasal sinuses. In the first step, surgical debridement was performed and combined antifungal therapy (liposomal amphotericin B, posaconazole, caspofungin) was started. Due to severe neutropen...

Pancytopenia with aplastic anemia in systemic lupus erythematosus: case series and literature review
We report two cases of SLE patients who presented with pancytopenia, with bone marrow biopsy confirmed AA. One case was treated with cyclophosphamide but unfortunately succumbed to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), while the other case was managed with rituximab with a good response. Interestingly, both patients were on azathioprine before the diagnosis of AA. A comprehensive search for reported cases of AA in PubMed, Scopus, and the Directory of Open Access Journals databases was performed to enhance the understanding of the diagnostic and management challenges associated with AA in SLE, facilitating ongoing exp...

Safety and efficacy of eltrombopag in patients with aplastic anemia: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
CONCLUSION: Compared to immunosuppressive therapy alone, eltrombopag combined with immunosuppressive therapy showed significant improvements in 6-month CR and 6-month OR. However, it also resulted in increased pigment deposition and abnormal liver function in terms of safety.PMID:38553907 | DOI:10.1080/16078454.2024.2335419 (Source: Hematology)

Isolation and genomic characterization of chicken infectious anemia virus in Jiangsu province of China during 2020-2022
In this study, a total of 223 clinical samples, including anal swabs, tissues, blood, and vaccines, were collected from 19 broiler farms or breeding companies in Jiangsu province, with symptoms of significant anemia and immunosuppression during 2020-2022. Among them, 75 samples (75/223, 33.6%) were positive for CIAV in polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, and 20 CIAV strains were successfully isolated. The phylogenetic trees of the 20 isolates and 42 CIAV strains deposited in GenBank formed four distinct groups (A-D). And the isolates mainly belonged to Group A but with high genetic diversity. Analysis for VP1 indicated t...

Haploidentical Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for Patients with Severe Aplastic Anemia-Single-Centre Experience
Curr Oncol. 2024 Feb 26;31(3):1246-1252. doi: 10.3390/curroncol31030093.ABSTRACTSevere aplastic anemia (SAA) is a life-threatening type of aplastic anemia for which allogeneic stem cell transplantation or immunosuppressive therapy are the principal treatment modalities. Only about 25-30% of patients have a matched sibling donor, and finding an unrelated donor in ethnic minorities is a challenge. The use of related haploidentical donor transplants in severe aplastic anemia is uncommon. We would like to report our experience with the first four patients who underwent haploidentical transplants for severe aplastic anemia. Thi...
