Alteration in apoptosis and ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) gene expression in mesenchymal stem cells in patients with idiopathic acquired aplastic anemia
AbstractAcquired aplastic anemia (AA) is a chronic debilitating disease, often fatal with no effective treatment. Intense research into its pathogenesis is ongoing with promising results. The present study explores apoptosis and ATM gene expression in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in idiopathic aplastic anemia (IAA). The study included 15 acquired IAA patients and 17 patients with non-aplastic non-neoplastic disorders and matched age and sex distribution as a control group. Long-term bone marrow (BM) cultures for patients and controls followed for isolation of MSCs isolation and their flow cytometry identification using CD...

Increased red blood cell alloimmunization rates in transfused aplastic anemia and myelofibrosis patients
DISCUSSION: Within our institution, patients with AA and MF had increased incidence rates of RBC AI compared to the general hospitalized patient population and may benefit from an antigen-matched protocol to minimize AI-related complications.PMID:37644882 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17529 (Source: Transfusion)

Meta-analysis of the results of haploidentical transplantation in the treatment of aplastic anemia
This study suggests that Haplo-HSCT may be a realistic therapeutic option for AA, which may provide a reference for decision-making. (Source: Annals of Hematology)

Time-dependent analysis of the impact on early cytomegalovirus reactivation of HLA mismatch and acute graft-versus-host disease after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation from related donors in acquired aplastic anemia
In conclusion, our data suggest that the higher HLA disparity and aGvHD increases susceptibility to early CMV reactivation. In particular, the dynamic landmarking analysis demonstrated the time-varying effect of aGvHD on CMV reactivation, and HLA mismatch showed a profound impact over time following HCT. The efficacy and safety of eltrombopag in treating TKI-induced thrombocytopenia in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia
This study retrospectively analyzed the clinical and test data of 21 CML patients with TKI-related thrombocytopenia. The results demonstrated that the median baseline value of thrombocytopenia in the 21 CML patients was 15.57 × 109/L [2-28 × 109/L]. Following treatment with eltrombopag, 16 patients had a significant increase in their platelet levels. The peak median for platelet increase in effective responders was 145.12 × 109/L (51-460 × 109/L). However, 5 patients failed to respond to eltrombopag. Moreover, 4 of the 21 patients enrolled had adverse reactions, including reversible liver function impairment, palpitati...

Red blood cell distribution width as a prognostic factor in patients with aplastic anemia treated with cyclosporin A plus androgen or cyclosporine A alone: a retrospective study
CONCLUSION: This is the first documentation on the prognostic value of RDW in AA patients receiving CsA treatment with long-term follow-up, which had shown that high RDW at diagnosis was a better prognostic factor.PMID:37594305 | DOI:10.1080/16078454.2023.2240665 (Source: Hematology)
