Urachal adenocarcinoma. Analysis of 8 years in a third level medical facility.
Conclusions: Urachal cancer is rare, clinical manifestations occur late. Hematuria is the most frequent clinical sign. The medium term prognosis is bad. PMID: 33498072 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Cirugia y Cirujanos)

Transumbilical laparoendoscopic single-site surgery versus conventional laparoscopic surgery for patients with symptomatic urachal remnants: an experience with 57 patients
ConclusionTransumbilical LESS surgery with Y-shaped incisions and subsequent three-flap umbilicoplasty is feasible in patients with symptomatic urachal remnants. Regarding postoperative cosmesis, the higher CS score suggests that this technique is superior to CL surgery. Furthermore, the selection of this procedure was an independent predictor of good postoperative esthetic outcomes. (Source: International Urology and Nephrology)

Gossypiboma with perforation of the umbilicus mimicking a complicated urachal cyst: a case report
A retained surgical sponge, also known as a gossypiboma, is a rare cause of serious postoperative complications. Diverse retained surgical materials including instruments such as clamps and sutures have been r... (Source: BMC Surgery)

Neurofibroma originating from a urachal mass.
Authors: Basourakos SP, Kasabwala K, Silich R, Mosquera JM, Choi B Abstract Urachal anomalies are rare in the adult population and when diagnosed, are typically malignant. Herein, we report a case of a 61-year-old male who underwent an excision of a urachal mass for a presumed malignancy. Pathologic evaluation demonstrated a neurofibroma. Neurofibromas are benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors that mostly appear as localized skin tumors and rarely involve the genitourinary system. Neoplastic transformation of neurofibromas is rare but not unheard. To our knowledge, this is the first description of a neurof...

Urachal Carcinoma: Are Lymphadenectomy and Umbilectomy Necessary?
CONCLUSIONS Lymph node metastases and failure to undergo umbilectomy were the independent prognostic factors for OS and PFS. Lymph node resection was not a predictor of OS. Patients had poorer prognosis when the tumor invaded the entire wall of the bladder compared with those that invaded the muscular layer. A Large Abdominal Mass in a Child Presenting with Fever and Urinary Symptoms: An Infected Urachal Cyst
A 6-year-old boy was admitted to a tertiary pediatric hospital with a two-week history of fevers, night sweats, lower abdominal pain, and dysuria. Initial inflammatory markers were elevated, but urine culture was negative for urinary tract infection (UTI). Abdominal ultrasound revealed a complex hypoechoic mass lesion arising from the anterior abdominal wall, extending from the umbilicus into the pelvis and compressing the bladder, initially concerning for possible soft tissue malignancy (Figure 1). Molecular Genetic Features of Primary Nonurachal Enteric-type Adenocarcinoma, Urachal Adenocarcinoma, Mucinous Adenocarcinoma, and Intestinal Metaplasia/Adenoma: Review of the Literature and Next-generation Sequencing Study
The diagnosis of primary adenocarcinoma of the urinary bladder may be challenging in routine practice. These tumors may morphologically and immunohistochemically overlap with urachal adenocarcinoma and colorectal adenocarcinoma. Further, their genetic background is poorly understood. We systematically searched the PubMed database for results of complex genetic evaluation of primary bladder adenocarcinoma subtypes. Subsequently, we designed our own series of bladder lesions. We evaluated 36 cases: 16 primary enteric-type adenocarcinomas, 7 urachal enteric adenocarcinomas, 3 primary mucinous/colloid adenocarcinomas, and 10 i...

Prevalence of APC and PTEN Alterations in Urachal Cancer
Pathol Oncol Res. 2020 Oct;26(4):2773-2781. doi: 10.1007/s12253-020-00872-6. Epub 2020 Aug 4.ABSTRACTUrachal carcinoma (UrC) is a rare tumor with remarkable histological and molecular similarities to colorectal cancer (CRC). Adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) is the most frequently affected gene in CRC, but the prevalence and significance of its alterations in UrC is poorly understood. In addition, loss of phosphatase and tensin homologue (PTEN) was shown to be associated with therapy resistance in CRC. Our primary aim was to assess specific genetic alterations including APC and PTEN in a large series of UrC samples in order...
