The Allantois and Urachus: Histological Study Using Human Embryo and Fetuses
Fetal Pediatr Pathol. 2021 Dec 2:1-10. doi: 10.1080/15513815.2021.2009943. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRelatively little is known about allantois and urachal development in early humans.Serial sagittal histological sections from eight human embryos and fetuses were examined to determine allantois development. At gestational age 6-7 weeks, the primitive allantois consists of an enlarged tube located between the umbilical cord and abdominal cavity, whereas the urachus is not yet developed. At 8 weeks, the allantois gradually withdraws from the distal to the proximal end of the umbilical cord, and both the proximal allantois...

Entero-Urachal Fistula: An Unusual Initial Presentation of Penetrating and Stricturing Crohn's Disease
We present the case of a healthy active duty soldier, with no previous medical history, found to have CD through an initial presentation of isolated umbilical drainage. Imaging workup identified an entero-uracho-cutaneous fistula with involvement of the transverse colon. Urachal anomalies are uncommon, and entero-urachal fistula as an initial presentation of CD is exceedingly rare. This case highlights the need to consider CD in the differential for patients with umbilical drainage despite a lack of concurrent more frequent presenting symptoms (abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, and perianal fistula). Maintaining awareness o...

Survival benefit of chemotherapy in a contemporary cohort of metastatic urachal carcinoma
CONCLUSION: Overall, we validated the very aggressive nature of UraC, when distant metastases are present, and observed that m-UraC patients exposed to chemotherapy exhibited lower OM and CSM.PMID:34686429 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2021.09.008 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Construction and Validation of Novel Prediction Tools Based on Large Population-Based Database to Predict the Prognosis of Urachal Cancer After Surgery
ConclusionsThe nomogram model with Sheldon staging system was recommended for predicting the prognosis of urachal cancer. The proposed nomograms have promising clinical applicability to help clinicians on individualized patient counseling, decision-making, and clinical trial designing. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Clinical, Pathological, and Prognostic Analysis of Urachal Carcinoma
Conclusions: The results indicate that high-risk TNM stage and positive surgical margin are risk predictors of prognosis. Localized T stage, histologic grade, and surgical procedure cause no significant effect on patient prognosis. The extended partial cystectomy is the recommended surgical approach for patients with UrC. Active multimodal treatments may improve the survival of patients with recurrent and metastatic disease.Urol Int (Source: Urologia Internationalis)
