Estimation of the incidence of urachal cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis of registry-based studies
CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides an up-to-date comparison of estimated incidence rates between 6 countries of 3 continents based on rigorously selected registry-based studies. The results suggest low incidence rates for UrC with considerable geographic differences. The present meta-analysis provides unbiased registry-based data on the incidence, clinicopathological parameters and survival of UrC.PMID:38627107 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.03.011 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Case report: Urachal perivascular epithelioid cell tumor
ConclusionsUrachal PEComa is a rare mesenchymal tumor that presents challenges in diagnosis through imaging and clinical symptoms. Definitive diagnosis relies on pathological and immunohistochemical analysis. Due to the rarity of urachal PEComa, prognosis assessment necessitates long-term follow-up and evaluation of more cases. An elderly man with chronic poor appetite
Clinical introduction A 77-year-old man with a 6-month history of poor appetite, nausea, weakness, and progressive weight loss presented to our outpatient department. He had no significant gastrointestinal or cardiovascular problems. Abdominal findings are pictured in figure 1. Question What is the most likely diagnosis? Omphalitis Umbilical abscess Urachal remnant Umbilical metastasis (Sister Mary Joseph’s nodule) Answer: D His abdominal findings showed conjunctival pallor and a firm, painless, blackish nodule on the umbilicus suggestive as umbilical metastasis (figure 2). Umbilical metastasis, also called Sister Ma...

A Novel Approach to Treatment with Antiangiogenic Agents in Adenocarcinoma of Urachal
A 53-year-old male was admitted to the hospital due to persistent waist pain. The chest Computed tomography (CT) scan revealed damage and swelling resembling soap bubbles in the right fourth rib. Subsequently, the patient was referred to our department. The review indicated occupation of the right fourth rib, destruction of the lumbar bone and two vertebrae, and raised suspicions of neoplastic lesions. Contrast-enhanced CT revealed a pelvic mass with enhancing characteristics and cystic components in close proximity to the dome of the bladder (Figure 1). (Source: Urology)

Regular gastroscopy and colonoscopy during the evaluation of urachal cancer: do we really need them?
Urachal cancer is similar to gastrointestinal adenocarcinoma in histology, and gastroscopy/colonoscopy is often administered during perioperative evaluation. However, gastroscopy and colonoscopy have correspon... (Source: BMC Cancer)

Rare urachal mucinous cystic tumor of low malignant potential with peritoneal pseudomyxoma: A case report
Exp Ther Med. 2023 Oct 17;26(6):555. doi: 10.3892/etm.2023.12254. eCollection 2023 Dec.ABSTRACTMucinous cystic tumors of low malignant potential (MCTLMP) are rare urachal neoplasms. The morphological characteristics and clinical prognosis of MCTLMP is similar to that of mucinous cystic tumors occurring in the ovary and appendix. After complete resection, almost no cases of recurrence or metastasis have been reported. Because MCTLMP is rare, it may be missed in the clinic. MCTLMP can lead to the formation of pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP), which manifests as the widespread production of mucus in the abdominal cavity and makes...

Management of urachal anomalies in pediatric patients: A comparison of treatment strategies between pediatric urology and general surgery
Persistence of embryonic urachal structures due to a failure of the urachus to involute into the median umbilical ligament is known as a urachal anomaly (UA). UAs may remain asymptomatic or lead to abdominal pain and recurrent infections. Management of UAs in pediatric patients has historically lacked a clear consensus between conservative and surgical management. While both urologists and general surgeons manage this pathology, a comparison of management style and outcomes between these specialties has not been published to our knowledge. Intravesical urachal cyst masquerading as a bladder malignancy: a case report
ConclusionsIntravesical urachal cysts are a rare type of congenital urachal anomaly that may simulate a bladder malignancy, particularly if associated with infection. This case emphasizes the importance of considering urachal cysts in the differential diagnosis of bladder masses, especially in children, and specifically when the lesion is midline in the anterosuperior wall of the bladder.
