Statistics in surgery, how to understand and apply basic concepts.
uez J Abstract It is estimated that a regular reader of biomedical publications will have access to 70% of journals with bivariate procedures with basic statistics, that is, any health professional with basic knowledge is capable of understanding the vast majority of published studies. That is why the need arises to write this text that aims to give an overview of the statistics applied to surgery, making reference to how and when to use each statistical procedure and of course how to interpret the results. We will handle definitions of concepts such as variables, hypotheses, confidence intervals, multivariate ana...

Total esophageal replacement by transmediastinal transposition of the stomach in a gastrointestinal stromal tumor of the thoracic esophagus: a rare surgical case report.
Conclusion: This case illustrates the clinical presentation of an esophageal GIST which represents only 1% of all sites where GISTs have been reported; open surgery was successfully performed with minimal morbidity, complete resolution of symptoms and improvement of the patient's quality of life. Esophagectomy with replacement by transmediastinal transposition of the stomach should be performed when the center has experience to do so with minimal morbidity and mortality. Postoperative abdominal adhesions: pathogenesis and current preventive techniques.
va-Coria PM Abstract Post-operative abdominal adhesions (PAA) are a condition that occurs in more than 90% of patients undergoing abdomen surgery; they can cause chronic abdominal pain, female infertility and repeated bowel obstruction, requiring repetitive surgical interventions causing morbidity and mortality, as well as high costs. The formation of the PAA is due to an imbalance between the fibrinogenesis and fibrinolysis in favor of the first, associated with tissue hypoxia secondary to aggression of the peritoneum, also due to the own inflammatory response and the increase in the population of adhesion fibrob...

Neuroendocrine tumor associate with inflammatory bowel disease: two cases report.
We present two patients, one with Crohn's disease and the other with ulcerative colitis, who present nonspecific symptoms, and after resection of an intestinal lesion, a gastrointestinal NET (GINET) is diagnosed. Discussion and conclusion: The GINET have an insidious clinic and these can be confused with those of the IBD. There could be an association between both pathologies; an important role of the chronic intestinal inflammatory process is suggested. The best treatment for GINET is the resection. Bowel obstruction due to video capsule endoscopy in a patient with Crohn's disease.
Conclusion: The rate of retention of CE in Crohn's disease is 5-6%, prior to its use, it is recommended to perform imaging studies to evaluate the bowel permeability, however negative studies do not exclude the presence of stenosis. In cases where intestinal resection is indicated, it is recommended to be wide with side-to-side stapled anastomosis to reduce the risk of recurrence of the disease. Conclusions: Abdominal wall endometriosis is the presence of ectopic endometrial tissue in any layer of the abdominal wall. Patients with this diagnosis are referred to the general surgeon presenting a tumor, however, the preoperative diagnosis rate is erroneous in most cases. Abdominal wall ultrasound is useful in diagnosis; tomography and magnetic resonance determine the extent of the disease.
