The anticancer activity of bile acids in drug discovery and development
Bile acids (BAs) constitute essential components of cholesterol metabolites that are synthesized in the liver, stored in the gallbladder, and excreted into the intestine through the biliary system. They play a crucial role in nutrient absorption, lipid and glucose regulation, and the maintenance of metabolic homeostasis. In additional, BAs have demonstrated the ability to attenuate disease progression such as diabetes, metabolic disorders, heart disease, and respiratory ailments. Intriguingly, recent research has offered exciting evidence to unveil their potential antitumor properties against various cancer cell types incl...

Gynecologic Care of Black Breast Cancer Survivors
AbstractPurpose of ReviewBlack patients suffer from breast cancer-related racial health disparities, which could have implications on their gynecologic care. This review explores considerations in the gynecologic care of Black breast cancer survivors.Recent FindingsBlack people have a higher risk of leiomyoma and endometrial cancer, which could confound bleeding patterns such as in the setting of tamoxifen use. As Black people are more likely to have early-onset breast cancer, this may have implications on long-term bone and heart health. Black patients may be more likely to have menopausal symptoms at baseline and as a re...

GSE225495 Accelerated cystogenesis by dietary protein load is dependent on, but not initiated by, kidney macrophages
Conclusion: Chronic dietary protein load-induced renal hypertrophy and accelerated cyst growth in Pkd1KO mice is dependent on both infiltrating and resident M Ф recruitment and subsequent inflammatory response. Early cyst expansion by HP diet, however, is relient on increased delivery of glutamine to kidney epithelial cells, driving downstream metabolic changes prior to inflammatory provocation. The risk factors for premalignant and malignant endometrial polyps in premenopausal and postmenopausal women and trends over the past decade: A retrospective study in a single center, South Korea
CONCLUSIONS: Menopause, abnormal uterine bleeding, obesity, multiple polyps, and nulliparity increase the risk of premalignancy and malignancy in endometrial polyps. The prevalence of premalignant and malignant polyps has been increasing over the past decade. The risk factors that have contributed to this trend were obesity, nulliparity, and multiple polyps.PMID:38354603 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2024.01.033 (Source: Reproductive Biology)

Vitamin K converting enzyme UBIAD1 plays an important role in osteogenesis and chondrogenesis in mice
In this study, we investigated the function of UBIAD1 in osteogenesis using a tamoxifen-dependent UBIAD1-deficient mouse model. When UBIAD1 deficiency was induced from the first week of life, the femur was significantly shortened, and bone mineral density (BMD) was reduced. In addition, the expression of bone and chondrocyte matrix proteins and chondrocyte differentiation factors was significantly decreased. In primary cultured chondrocytes, chondrocyte differentiation was significantly reduced by UBIAD1 deficiency. These results suggest that UBIAD1 is an important factor for the regulation of chondrocyte proliferation and...

GSE253151 scRNA-seq for stromal Lkb1 deficiency-induced gastrointestinal polyps
Contributors : Zhaohua Cai ; Yangjing Jiang ; Min Liang ; Yijie Huang ; Ben HeSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Mus musculusNumerous studies have showed that mesenchymal-specific Lkb1 is sufficient for the development of PJS-like polyps in mice. However, the cellular origin and component of these Lkb1-associated polyps and underlying mechanisms remain elusive. In this present study, we generated tamoxifen-inducible Lkb1flox/flox;Myh11-Cre/ERT2 mice and performed scRNA-seq to investigate the cellular complexity of gastrointestinal polyps associated with PJS. Assessing effects of tamoxifen on tolerance, dependence, and glutamate and glutamine levels in frontal cortex and hippocampus in chronic morphine treatment
This study, therefore, evaluated effects of tamoxifen on development of analgesic tolerance and dependence, and brain glutamate and glutamine levels in chronic morphine administration. Mice implanted with placebo or morphine pellets were injected with tamoxifen (0.6-2mg/kg) or vehicle twice daily for 3 days. Nociceptive response was evaluated in the hot plate and tail immersion tests, 4, 48 and 72h post-implant, and following a challenge dose of morphine (10mg/kg). Withdrawal signs were determined after naloxone (1mg/kg) administration. Morphine increased nociceptive threshold which declined over time. At 72h, acute morphi...

The impact of hormones in autoimmune cutaneous diseases
CONCLUSION: Pregnancy, menopause, contraceptive use, hormone replacement therapy, and breast cancer treatment drugs result in substantial shifts in hormone levels. Additionally, hormone levels are altered by aromatase inhibitors and anti-estrogen medications. These fluctuations can modulate mechanisms influencing autoimmune skin abnormalities.PMID:38317519 | DOI:10.1080/09546634.2024.2312241 (Source: Journal of Dermatological Treatment)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 678: Macrophages Promote Subtype Conversion and Endocrine Resistance in Breast Cancer
Conclusion: Our study revealed the HER2-E subtype conversion during LNM in BC. Macrophages were the crucial cell type in TME, inducing the downregulation of HR and upregulation of HER2, probably via MNX1. Targeting macrophages or MNX1 may provide new avenues for endocrine therapy and targeted treatment of BC patients with LNM. (Source: Cancers)
