I'm thinking about working as a rural nocturnist for 3 years after residency to maximize my income and invest heavily. Is this realistic?
Here's my situation: I'm an IMG from Europe on a J1 visa. I started an IM residency at the age of 32 and will finish it at 35. Although I'm a bit older, I have a low amount of student debt (~$40,000). Single, no wife, no kids (although it's something I want in the long-term). I don't want to return to my home country for two years, so I have been thinking about getting a J1-waiver job in an underserved region for 3 years to get a green card. I have been looking at some of these jobs, and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hospitalist - problems with nurses
Some background, I went to med school at an academic center, then residency at a large (>400 bed) community hospital, and now am a hospitalist at a rural (<100) bed hospital. I have only been here a little while, but so far I have gotten a few nursing complaints. In these complaints, the nurses lie, exaggerate and spin little things to make them sound terrible. So far my medical director has not made a big deal out of them, but at the same time I know it cannot be good for me from a job... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Need reapplicant/Gap year advice for mid to high stats ORM (soft WAMC too).
I’m a 4th year undergrad graduating this May with double STEM majors (Biochem, Neuro) hailing from a large state school in the Southeastern US. My GPA is a 3.9 (probably will either stay or go up slightly at the end of this year) and my MCAT is a 518. I’m ORM, but from a rural area. I’m new here, but I hope that's high enough to get one A in the future. I have 1 little publication, no presentations or anything. However, I’m working hard on it in a lab rn. I’m going to try to write my senior... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Second year medical student asking about the field
I get it. I have read all the older docs here complaining. I am aware of what is happening to EM. However, given I was pretty set on EM, I do not know where to go from here. I was thinking of doing EM residency, then a fellowship if things are as bad as people here are saying. All of the ER docs I used to work with in rural, underserved areas have no complaints about salary, job opportunities-mostly the admin and patient stuff. I am a slightly above-average medical student with lots of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

FM Fellowship: Addiction Medicine vs Behavioral Health(Primary Care Psychiatry)
Hi all ! I am currently an IMG PGY-1 in FM residency Old grad: YOG 2016, completed all 3 step exams now, got my step 3 score AFTER matching. Matched into FM on first try in Miami. I applied to both Psych & FM. I ranked Psych first, FM second. Ideally I'd like to be outpatient & see mainly psych patients long term. Does anyone have any knowledge on addiction and behavioral health fellowship for FM? I plan to continue to live in the city, not rural setting. 1. Would the scope of my... Hospital Based Pay: ~$75/wRVU with base guarantee approx 400k. Sign-on: ~50k for 4 years Referral base is largely from small rural setting. Malpractice with tail coverage No Call; 4-day work week Receptive administration; CEO is an MD Practice currently has 1 other provider who I personally know. Very reasonable. Cons: Less desirable living... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC - rural, 506mcat, 2.99sgpa 3.35cgpa 3.49masters gpa
Hi! Thank you so much for taking the time to help me! Have already applied to my in-state DOs via TMDSAS as well as one MD school I did research and shadowed at. GPA: 2.99 science gpa from my undergrad (super sad but I literally never took high school science classes lol lol) 3.35cgpa. 3.49 SMP GPA, with strong upward trend. unfortunately the 506 is a retake from a 495->498->506 which I'm aware is a red flag. 506 breakdown is 125/130/124/127 State of residence...
