University of Maryland vs, Tufts (Maine track)
Maryland pro -close to home and SO -less expensive -more diverse specialties in a larger academic hospital -more research opportunities and more prestigious con -less focus and work with rural patient population -city environment Tufts pro -rural primary care focused (leaning towards this as a specialty) -new location and experience con -away from family and SO -more expensive -less prestigious I am wondering your thoughts... 2022-2023 umkc
Hey there I recently got accepted into UMKC medical school st. Joseph campus. Wanted to know how well students from there match into specialties, specifically dermatology, because I know it's a primarily rural medical school and opened up recently. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Getting Kypho Referrals
Hey all, Long-time lurker and infrequent poster. Really appreciate everything I have learned from this forum and would appreciate any advice I can get on this. I am a new grad working in a hospital-employed group. My group does some kypho, but I am starting out of 2 new locations without any established pain physicians or set referral sources. One location is attached to a small, rural non-trauma hospital and the other is associated with a busy level 3 trauma center. There are no spine... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Does it matter where you go for 3rd year rotations?
Hi everyone I’m a current 2nd year at UNECOM! UNECOM has about 18 clinical sites ranging from bigger teaching hospitals with residents to very rural community hospitals with no residents to sites with a mix of both. I see the pros and cons of each one and honestly don’t know what to do. Wondering how much it will matter in the long run if at all. I’m interested in either gen surg or EM but don’t need to go to a crazy amazing residency program. Advice? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Strange nonclinical employment situation - Red flag?
I had many, many years where I couldn't hold down a job for very long due to transportation issues related to poorly controlled epilepsy. I lived in a rural area where Uber was not an option. Our only cab company was one guy (who creeped me out to boot!). If he was busy with another passenger, you were bum out of luck. It's not like walking was an option for me either. I eventually gave up! There were limited options for someone who couldn't do any kind of farm labor in a rural area too. I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Practicing in rural location - SCS trial and refer out for implant?
I might be signing a contract for a rural practice. I would be able to do SCS trials, but would not be able to put in implants due to no ASC/OR. Is it possible to just do trials on my own in the clinic and refer out for the implant to a larger city 2 hours away? Thanks for any input (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Inpatient negotiation penny for your thoughts
My hospital inpatient unit is hemorrhaging providers left and right, to the point we'll likely have to contract the service line down to inpatient unit only, and no med consults or ED coverage. We are located in an area that has proved very challenging to recruit psychiatrists, rural ish, uber conservative politically, schools aren't that great, but good outdoor recreation activities. Does anyone have experience with this scenario, where it feels like the docs have a lot of leverage to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Job offer comparison
Oh, Wise Peeps! Recommendation for a job? I have two job offers and would much appreciate your advice. 1) Job 1 - Outpatient remote telepsychiatry at a community clinic in the rural mid-west (part of several clinics of a nonprofit that has been in existence for 15 yrs). The job will be exclusively outpatient with a child/adult mix for 30 hours/week ( 70% adult: 30% child-could increase to a max of 50% adult: 50% CAP) (3 hours admin time+ 2 hours lunch time/week ) for a 262 K salary...
