WAMC? ORM, 3.6 cGPA and sGPA, 512 MCAT. May need to reapply
WAMC? ORM, 3.6 cGPA and sGPA, 512 MCAT Well, here I am. 2 II’s so far, one of them resulting in a WL, no response from the other. 7 holds/under review, 5 Rs. I’m a mid-20s ORM male living in the northeast. 3.6 cGPA and sGPA, 512 MCAT (128, 125, 130, 129), CASPER 3rd quartile, ORM, northeast state resident without any IS schools, small liberal arts school for undergrad. Major activities (let me know if you want me to divulge more on them): EMT/Paramedic in both an urban and rural... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

non-invasive Cardiology starting salaries
I'm curious what the rough differences are between non-invasive cards starting gigs at hospitals vs private practice.. and what starting salaries would look like in the northeast? For both rural northeast and major hubs like Boston? Everything I see says that area has some of the lowest starting salaries in the nation due to "prestige" but I don't know where it actually is... Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Advice needed. How can I as an incoming M1 at a rural Midwest school match EM at Mass General?
Esp now that STEP 1 is pass fail, I refuse to believe the battle is already lost based on pedigree. I want high level academic programs for 2 reasons 1. the fellowship I am interested in is only offered by the top hospitals in the country. 2. the upcoming state of EM means being a normal ER doc is out of the question. So how can I go from unranked to a top 3 hospital? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Career change from public health
I'm a current public health worker and am looking into applying to med school in a couple years. I've come to realize that I still want to work in public health, but will need to be a physician to accomplish my goals in the field (and I also have an interest in treating patients, ideally want to work at a rural health department where I can do both). I want to make sure I'm on the right track with ECs. During college (many years ago), for volunteering I mostly did tutoring at a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

When people talk about rural areas what do they mean?
I’ve heard that some of the most lucrative areas are the rural ones. But I’m curious as to what that means. I consider myself as having grown up rural and I lived out in the sticks, if I climbed on my roof I wouldn’t have been able to see any houses. The biggest town in the whole county only had about 3,500 people and the county itself only had about 17,000 people if I recall. I asked on another website if it would be possible to practice in a town with about 500 people but no other dentists... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MSG/Hospital jobs
Hello, everyone I am an associate in a somewhat rural place right now. The job ain't the worst but not the greatest either (i've heard stories). It's ok and for my first job out of residency I'm fine with that. But it's not in a place I see myself staying for more than a few years (I only have my mom here and she don't like it either ) but I was wondering, how does one get these hospital/multispecialty physicians group jobs? Do you just cold call/email everyone and their dog in the region... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Vaccination mandate
Hey team, More venting than anything, but wanted to hear others experiences. I’m currently rural hospital employed but working on transition to PP. Working in the hospital has been increasingly hard due to lack of staff in the last 1.5 years, however that seems to be getting extraordinarily more difficult with the vaccination mandate starting the first of next year. I currently had another staff member quit today, and the second to come in the next month due to not getting vaccinated, Which... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Med changes over the phone
Working in a rural clinic seeing kids/adolescents. Since the beginning i'm getting bombarded with calls with patients expecting med changes/adjustments. "xyz kid is not doing well and so change a med", often times can't get the kids in sooner due to fuller schedule. The times i do get them in earlier they are 50% no-show. I take it PP mostly does not allow any med changes without appointments but wanted to see how the community handles such requests? PS: i was stricter in the beginning... The Proliferation of Assistant Physicians Helping The Underserved
In 2014, Missouri became the first state in the nation to enact legislation creating the new professional designation of assistant physician. The Missouri law allows assistant physicians to provide primary care services to individuals in rural and underserved areas with limited physician supervision without completing a postgraduate residency training. The Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts began accepting applications for the assistant physician designation on January... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Best way to do primary care and EM
Hey! I've looked all over the forum and can't find any recent good answers for this. I've been thinking about this for all three years I've been in school so far. So while some may judge me for this post, I feel my desire to pursue this is significant to me. I'd like to practice in primary care and in the ED. I am familiar with some of the pathway options to do this (in no particular order): 1. FM residency and practice ED shifts in a rural setting. 2. FM residency and EM fellowship. 3... Do you need to be rural to do full scope family medicine?
Ok so apologies if I sound ignorant or anything because I'm just a premed applying next year, but anyways I've been doing a lot of research and it seems like full scope family medicine is the ideal specialty for me. The PCP I grew up with was a "referral machine" and honestly really ruined my vision of what a doctor was. She always seemed depressed, the slightest issue I had while growing up she'd refer to derm, pt, e.t.c, and the only thing she actually did for me that didn't require me... Is Rad Onc Still Really Competitive in 2021
Hi All! I'm an M3 wanting to go into Rad Onc. I'm not the most competitive applicant (Step 1 226) at a new, low-tier MD school but I'm very interested in the field. I'm aware of the job market issue and personally I don't mind living in a rural area (I have done so before) if I can have the job that I want. I'm also aware that it's been very competitive in the past. I'm wondering if, given the recent issues in the field, it is at all possible for someone in my position to match into any... Rural medical schools?
Hello. I am posting this in the MD section but this question is for ALL medical schools. Are there any in a more rural area? I know cities provide amazing resources and opportunities, but I am from a city, currently living in a more rural community and love it. I plan to practice medicine in a rural area if I get to become a physician, and I would just prefer a rural learning environment (although I don't care that much about it, I am just wondering). I tried looking it up but didn't really... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
