KYCOM vs TouroCOM-NY Harlem vs BCOM
Hey everyone! I could use any help on how to make the best decision regarding which medical school I should attend. Some goals: practice in a lively place, have a good chance at competitive residency programs, good research opportunities, and currently interested in psychiatry, OB/Gyn, or orthopedics. KYCOM Pros: - KYCOM advantage (iPad, pay for board prep/exams) - great match rate - low tuition - more established - exams are monthly Cons: - super rural, population of like ~7,000... Video laryngoscopes
I'm trying to buy relatively cheap/durable video laryngoscopes for some very small rural EDs. The users would be infrequent intubators who have reasonable but novice airway experience. It would be nice to have something like the Karl Storz C-MAC Pocket Monitor, for example, but it's just not feasible financially. So far, I've looked at the iView, McGrath Mac, AirTraq, Glide Scope and Ambu King Vision. Any recommendations, thoughts, or experiences? I would appreciate any help. (I've already... WAMC Rural State/Big Upward Trend
3.54 cgpa, 3.4 sgpa with freshman year being 3.6, 3.4 for sophomore and junior year and a 3.98 for my senior year, I was my grandmother's caretaker, she was terminally ill, over covid as I have a single parent and I was unable to balance school and personal responsibilities, I will try and explain my bad grades in my application. Also my last year is packed full of science and math courses so it is not an easy year to boost my gpa. 511 127/127/130/127, deciding on retake my fl... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anesthesiology vs Emergency Medicine
3rd-year med student here stuck in the middle. Should I go for anesthesia, do the 4-year residency, and have a somewhat stable, well-paying, and happy albeit possibly repetitive and slow job (relatively speaking)? Or should I go into emergency, do the 3-year residency, see all the crazy, ****ed-up **** that society has to offer (which draws me in for some reason) and feel like a doctor but also burn out by the time I'm 40 and call it quits? Also, EM makes more $$$ per hour, and rural... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Realistic hourly rate for nocturnist locums?
What is a realistic hourly rate these days for nocturnist locum jobs? I am thinking specifically suburban/rural and open ICU (I imagine this setting pays the most but I could be wrong). Ideally jobs that are open to both FM and IM. I am posting this on the IM forum since you all do much more hospitalist work than FM on average. My very uneducated guess is $170-180/hr based on what full-time nocturnists make yearly. But, it would be sweet if it was more like $200+/hr Also, did locums... Would an additional LOR help my application?
Hello, I am a current applicant who received 4 interviews and is sitting on 2 waitlists. I received letters of recommendation from my evolutionary biology professor, my research mentor (post-doc MD/PhD), my supervisor at the center I volunteer for, and a rural internal medicine physician. I recently left a job as a Patient Transporter at a hospital to start a research position. My old supervisor (RN/PhD unit director) has offered to write me a letter of recommendation. We had developed a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Any advice from people who did their second or third choice specialty??
Hi everyone, previously in my M3 year I was considering dropping out, with motivation from my family I’ve decided to keep going and am doing better emotionally. But I still have my low step 1 (205) and will have one HP and rest Ps in clinicals. Really tried to like the rest of my peds rotation bc I love kids but I really disliked both clinic and inpatient, the general medicine of peds didnt interest me. FM was fun in a rural setting but liked it much less in my city (300k), living rural... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
