Age-stratified clinical performance and survival of patients with IDH-wildtype glioblastoma homogeneously treated by radiotherapy with concomitant and maintenance temozolomide.
CONCLUSION: Elderly patients in good pre- and postoperative clinical conditions may show similar outcome as younger patients when treated according to standard of care. However, elderly patients may suffer more frequently from clinical deterioration following chemoradiotherapy. In both age groups, MGMT promoter methylation was linked to longer PFS and OS. Stroke-like migraine attacks after radiation therapy (SMART) syndrome —a case series and review
ConclusionOur extensive review favors MRI, CT, and prolonged EEG monitoring to rule out other differentials and showed that initiation of corticosteroid therapy and antiepileptic treatment were helpful in the resolution of symptoms and prevent recurrences. Therefore, future studies should be focused on early identification and management guidelines for SMART syndrome.

According to an international clinical trial, co-directed by researchers from the University of Montreal Hospital Research Centre (CRCHUM), interventional treatment--by neurosurgery, neuroradiology or radiation therapy--could be more dangerous than the disease itself.

Goal-directed therapy with bolus albumin 5% is not superior to bolus ringer acetate in maintaining systemic and mesenteric oxygen delivery in major upper abdominal surgery: A randomised controlled trial
CONCLUSION Bolus human albumin 5% was not superior to bolus ringer acetate in maintaining systemic or mesenteric oxygen delivery in elective major upper gastrointestinal cancer surgery, despite the administration of larger volumes of trial fluid in the ringer acetate group. In conclusion, radiotherapy increased the risk of ischemic stroke by 68% and also accelerated the onset of stroke in long-term OCC survivors after primary surgery compared with matched normal controls. Secondary prevention should include stroke as a late complication in OCC survivorship programs.

Outcomes of cardiac surgery after mediastinal radiation therapy: A single ‐center experience
ConclusionThis study shows that cardiac surgery after mediastinal radiotherapy is associated with increased short ‐ and long‐term mortality when compared to preoperative mortality risks predicted by the Euroscore II. Surgery‐related events caused all short‐term mortality cases, while malignancy‐related events were the main cause of death during the follow‐up. Mortality was higher in patients with a previous stroke and a lower estimated glomerular filtration rate.
