A Great Heist: Subclavian Steal Syndrome Causing Posterior Transient Ischemic Attack and Stroke
Conclusion This case illustrates a case of vertebrobasilar transient ischemic attack and posterior circulation stroke from subclavian steal syndrome in the setting of prior radiation therapy manifesting as extremity weakness and discoordination. Further research on therapeutic radiation dosages and subsequent incidence of arterial disease which could contribute to subclavian steal syndrome is necessary.PMID:36036849 | DOI:10.7812/TPP/21.234

Risk of Stroke After Definitive Radiotherapy —Cause for Concern or Modest Risk?
With the rapidly increasing prevalence of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC), largely driven by the human papillomavirus (HPV) epidemic, and with relative equipoise between radiation-based and surgery-based treatment protocols, there has been renewed interest in describing differences in functional outcomes between the 2 treatment modalities. Radiation is theoretically related to stroke risk due to carotid artery intimal injury, which could lead to the development of atherosclerosis. Both carotid artery stenosis and carotid intima-medial thickness have been shown to be associated with radiation therapy providing...

115 SMART: A rare syndrome with potentially devastating consequences
We report three cases with differing neurological presentations and outcomes. A 57 year old female with previous cranial radiotherapy for a frontal astrocytoma treated 9 years earlier presented with a two week history of headache, aphasia and right sided hemiparesis. MRI Brain demon- strated new extensive left hemispheric enhancement with extensive effacement of the ipsilateral cerebral sulci. 40 days following her presentation she started to improve and is now in rehabilitation. A 33 year old female with a background of medulloblastoma treated with cranio-spinal radiotherapy 19 years earlier presented with worsening confu...

Risk of Cardiovascular Disease in Women With and Without Breast Cancer: The Pathways Heart Study
CONCLUSION: Women with BC had increased incidence of CVD events, CVD-related mortality, and all-cause mortality compared with women without BC, and risks varied according to the history of cancer treatment received. Studies are needed to determine how women who received BC treatment should be cared for to improve cardiovascular outcomes.PMID:35385342 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.21.01736
