Development of biocompatible aqueous polyurethane dispersions using chitosan and curcumin to improve physicochemical properties of textile surfaces
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Aug 7:126196. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126196. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe present research work aims to synthesize a blend of chitosan (CSN) and curcumin (CRN) based aqueous polyurethane dispersions (CSN-CRN APUDs) for the modification of textile surfaces. A series of anionic CSN-CRN APUDs were prepared by the reaction of isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and extended with chain extenders (CSN and CRN). Structural characterizations of prepared materials were examined through a fourier transformed infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer. The performances of coated C...

Comparison of ordinary reverse transcription real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) with a newly developed one-step single-tube nested real-time RT-PCR (OSN-qRT-PCR) for sensitive detection of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater
In this study, we attempted to increase the sensitivity of qRT-PCR by developing a one-step single-tube nested qRT-PCR assay (OSN-qRT-PCR). Two variants were developed, oriented to nucleocapsid phosphoprotein gene (N) and to spike protein gene (S), respectively. The performance of conventional qRT-PCR assays oriented to these genes with two novel OSN-qRT-PCR assays were firstly optimized using wastewater artificially contaminated with two encapsidated RNA mimic systems harboring a portion either N or S gene (ENRM and ESRM, respectively). The assays were coupled to a polyethylene glycol-based RNA precipitation/extraction me...

Reconstructing Hydrogen Bond Network Enables High Voltage Aqueous Zinc-Ion Supercapacitors
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Aug 7:e202309601. doi: 10.1002/anie.202309601. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHigh-voltage aqueous rechargeable energy storage devices with safety and high specific energy are hopeful candidates for the future energy storage system. However, the electrochemical stability window of aqueous electrolytes is a great challenge. Herein, inspired by density functional theory (DFT), polyethylene glycol (PEG) can interact strongly with water molecules, effectively reconstructing the hydrogen bond network. In addition, N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) can coordinate with Zn2+, assisting in the rapid desolvati...

Fight Aging! Newsletter, August 7th 2023
In conclusion, here, we demonstrate a novel mechanism for ESC-EVs to protect cells from senescence. However, whether ESC-EVs rejuvenate aged mice via miR-15b-5p and miR-290a-5p remains unknown. Next, we plan to use miR-15b-5p and miR-290a-5p antagonists while treating aged mice with ESC-EVs to further investigate the mechanism by which ESC-EVs resist aging in vivo. « Back to Top Fatty Acid Metabolism as a Commonality in Different Approaches to Slowing Aging https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2023/08/fatty-acid-metabolism-as-a-commonality-in-different-approaches-to-slowing-aging/ It seems...

Constructing a cellulose based chiral liquid crystal film with high flexibility, water resistance, and optical property
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Aug 3:126132. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126132. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCellulose nanocrystal (CNC) derived from cellulose can form a liquid crystal film with bright structural color by evaporative-induced self-assembly (EISA). As a new class of photonic liquid crystals material, it has attracted much attention because of its intrinsic unique structural characteristics and excellent optical properties. However, the brittleness and water sensitivity of CNC film have hindered its practical application. Herein, multiple cross-linked networks CNC/(polyethylene glycol diacrylate:polyethylene o...

Report on four cases with decreased recovery due to neutralizing antibodies specific for PEGylated recombinant factor VIII
CONCLUSION: The number of patients with inhibitory anti-PEG antibodies was significant, and the presence of inhibitors against PEGylated rFVIII emphasizes the importance of individual monitoring when switching FVIII concentrates to ensure safety and efficacy of the treatment.PMID:37543216 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtha.2023.07.019

The interplay between PEGylated nanoparticles and blood immune system
Adv Drug Deliv Rev. 2023 Aug 2:115044. doi: 10.1016/j.addr.2023.115044. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDuring the last two decades, an increasing number of reports have pointed out that the immunogenicity of polyethylene glycol (PEG) may trigger accelerated blood clearance (ABC) and hypersensitivity reaction (HSR) to PEGylated nanoparticles, which could make PEG modification counterproductive. These phenomena would be detrimental to the efficacy of the load and even life-threatening to patients. Consequently, further elucidation of the interplay between PEGylated nanoparticles and the blood immune system will be beneficial ...

PEGylated Fluorescent Anti-Carcinoembryonic Antigen Antibody Labels Colorectal Cancer Tumors in Orthotopic Mouse Models
CONCLUSIONS: M5A-IR800-SW provided bright and targeted NIR images of human CRC in orthotopic primary-tumor and liver-metastasis mouse models. The results of the present study suggest the clinical potential of M5A-IR800-SW for fluorescence-guided surgery including metastasectomies for CRC. The lack of hepatic NIR signal is of critical importance to allow for precise labeling of liver tumors.PMID:37540977 | DOI:10.1016/j.jss.2023.06.013
